Hello all,

After 6 months of hassel-free driving Alan the Seicento is buggering up again...

Went to start the car yesterday and it was slow to start, didn't think it was that unsual given the freexing weather. Put the heater on and there was an awful burning smell, like an electrical fault. Managed t drive to work OK, onyl other issue was the engine fan was coming on more often than usual.

Aired the car overnight thinking I may have just got something stuck in the exhaust.

Got to the car this morning and the smell was still there. Again very slow to turn over and the smell is still pouring in through the ai vents. Now I've noticed that the front windscreen wipers aren't working and the indicators are really really fast...

Anyone have any ideas? I've asked a few people at work and they say it's possibly something to do with the alternator?

Thanks

Hi Mez

I was very interested in your mailing as I had the exact same thing on Wednesday, less the indicators. The car was covered in show so I started up so my cento could warm up while I cleared the snow. When I went to get in there was a blue fog in the car with that acrid smell of burning electrics that you know is going to be expensive. I turned off, opened the doors to clear the fog and then restarted. It still smelled but not so bad so I drove to work. When I needed to use the wipers I found they were not working. When I had the opportunity I shook the blades and they started. When I arrived at work they were not working again. I abandoned her at work for two days of snow and when I collected her today they worked. Now they don't.

I would be very interested if you find the solution to this as I have intermittent central locking and windows, as well as an intermittent power steering.

Thanks

Also check your earth.

HI SPD

Thanks for your reply and advice. Could you please tell me how many earths there are, where they are and how I access them? Someone mentioned a gearbox to chassis earth as being a particular problem in another mailing.

On my power steering issue, I read in the forum that there is a sensor that feeds the PAS and speedo. Can you tell me where this is located as I would like to check the connections on this as well.

I'm hopeful that the earths are my problem as the poor old cento failed to start this morning in the cold weather with a flat battery but when I put it on charge my charger says the battery is 3/4 charged.

Thanks

Mick

Hello all,

Well long and short of it is I have burnt the motor out, so will need to get it replaced (currently lokoing around £80 for the motor alone - blimey). Does anyone know whether the cinquecento motor is the same as the sei one?
