I'm trying to replace the belts after replacing a water pump and cam belt, I cant remember the configuration for the belts...
can anyone help...:confused::confused:
I think the alternator belt runs horizontally and the fan belt vertically, with the alternator belt on the wheel first then the fan belt,
however i cant see how the 'tensioner' works also there's an further wheel (doens't seem like a tensioner for the fan belt I think this sits inside the belt?:confused::confused:):confused:
not sure though....
Please help... its starting to snow again and it'll be dark soon.... I really need it to work ASAP :confused::confused::bang::bang::cry::cry:

There is no fan belt. There is an alternator belt (runs on the outside) and a timing belt. The timing belt if a flat toothed belt, the alternator belt is a V belt, but may have grooves cut in it.

If you rush at this you'll mess up the timing, leave it till tomorrow. But before you come in from the dark, the timing belt tensioner looks like -- indeed, it is -- a simple ball bearing race. The bolt more or less in the middle is mounted eccentrically in order that the tensioner can be swivelled around to tension the belt.

There's a guide up top in the Guides.

sorry... not fan belt its the air con belt.. they're running off the same wheel, do you know where there may be a diagram of how it goes together I found on the cam belt but cant get a technical diagram for this anywhere.

I've looked through the guides and can't find one.

This is all I could find, it's for a type 187 Seicento. Top one appears to be for a 899cc engine without A/C. Bottom one for 1108cc engine with A/C. Does this match your car?

Dave.

I can't seem to remove the alternator, :bang::bang::bang:
Is there any way of getting the belt on without removing the alternator???
Are the belts responsive to heat?...
I was thinking if softening the rubber and stretching it?
Any thoughts:confused::confused::confused:

conundrum solved... maybe...:confused:
I've had to replace the old belts even though after measuring and re-measuring they were the same length as their intended replacements,
the new ones weren't pliable enough to get around the wheels. :bang:
You'd have thought that the old ones being subject to the same climatic conditions would suffer the same deficiencies/ pliability issues (maybe new belts were part of a dodgy batch).
Just to add the old ones aren't in particularly bad condition I took the opportunity to replace them as its the first time I've needed to take this section apart since buying the car 13 months ago. (72K on the clock)
The only other work I've done is to replace the clutch at 81K, and obviously the usual 'driveway service'.
Its now at 83K and still had the original belts, and I will still be replacing the belts ASAP but not after returning these ones, and giving my blagging supplier a hard time (long story known him a while, has a passion for doing a half assed job) Anyway.
Fingers99 & Davren. Thanks to both of you for your invaluable help. :worship::worship::worship:
