I was watching that Autotrader prog on Discovery Turbo.

The guy on there was seeing if he could "con" the student type out of his hard earned for a Punto.

The guy could,nt find anything wrong with it and was willing to hand over "his" £1200.

Turns out,our salesman was just having a laugh with him and told him the car was a bargain because it only had the BLUE key and it would cost over £900 for a new key,ecu and replace all the locks.

So,I was thinking...Is the RED key REALLY that important?
Does it REALLY need £900 to solve the problem?
Logic tells me,I just need to give Fiat my chassis number and get a new RED key for a considerably smaller amount of cash.

£900 is OTT. The cheapest way to do it -- but posssible on most FIATs which had a red key -- is simply to contact members gazzaman2k or McCritch and buy an ECU chip without the immobiliser code. Of course, your car would be more prone to theft, but a damn good imobiliser won't set you back 900 swids and will make your insurance company much happier.

why this in Cinquecento / Seicento

red key problems are history now, plenty of ways around not having one, you used to need it for ecu updates and could only get new keys to work if you had it. now there are no more ecu updates and blue keys can be cloned as long as you have 1 blue key the most a new one will cost is about £30
