Hi,

We have had the gaerbox off to change the clutch. Gearbox back on we noticed when trying to put the driveshaft in on the passenger sife the crown gear had dropped down. We fished it back up with a magnet and put that side in.

We then noticed the other side wouldnt stay in. When looking there is no spline in that side of the diff. Is it possible that that has dropped down. If so how do we get it back. Is it a whole gearbox/diff off job.

Regards,

Matt

The sping clip is still on the end of the drive shaft. What we noticed was that when looking into the diff (from either side with the drive shafts out the diff) the gears inside the diff that the driveshafts slot into had slipped down and on the drivers side of the diff we could not retrieve the gear.

I think we are going to drop the box and have a look to see what has actually happened. Has anyone had this sort of trouble before.

When we dropped the gearbox last time to fit the lightweight flywheel and race clutch my Dad said he remembered me saying that the gears in the diff could drop down, but I cant remember saying anything:confused:

All help appreciated!

Thank you for the advice.

In then end we took the gearbox off, re-positioned the planetry gears and fe-fitted. We decided not to take a chance not knowing the Fiat set-up.

After inspection of the diff we realised that if you remove the drive shafts completely, you must remove one shaft, insert an alignment tool (we used a 22mm wooden peg about 100mm long), then remove the other shaft. This prevents the planetry gears sliding round and slipping down out of place. To refit insert one driveshaft, remove alignment tool, then refit next driveshaft.

Thanks

Matt
