Anyone tried these?
As I look around e-bay,I,m seeing lots of these so called, piggy back performance chips.

They make seemingly outrageous claims for increases in performance but they seem very cheap and I was wondering if anyone had actually given them a go.

I,m fairly open minded but I know you won,t suddenly find 25bhp from an 1108cc engine by changing a chip.

But you might get anything from 5-10.

Comments....

Have a read of this... these are not performance chips of any kind. They are merely resistors which when wired in make the engine think it's receiving very cold air instead of what it's really getting, causing it to run rich, meaning in some cases it appears slightly faster. And wears the engine faster.

5 - 10 hp is 10 - 20% HP increase... you wouldn't even get that.

don't worry though I never fitted it to my baby. I gave it to some charv one night and he stuck it on his saxo[}:)]

yeah cool we could buy them and give then to clio and sax owners to kill there cars off,:D

My dad bought one of these things saying "+25BHP"

When it arrived he was convinced and isntalled it, said he noticed a power increase.

I read the instructions that came with it and it said at the bottom "+25BHP is a brand name and does not mean that this device will increase hp by 25"

There are piggy backs which work, but they tend to be very ECU specific, relatively expensive and targetted at Japanese cars. If you have an SPI car you can buy a "real" chip for not a lot more than one of the eBay resistors.

Where can you get a "real chip" from i want one lol!

Very interesting.

Was thinking of trying to get a bit more OOMPH but I think it best to just buy a bigger engined car.
Like the Americans always say,"Aint no substitute for cubes".
