Hey all and Merry Christmas.

Well after numerous problems with my ickle Cinquecento Sporting another problem has occured.

First Clutch Cable, then Clutch itself, Then Exhaust and now Water Pump and all in 11 months since owning it.

Not too much of a problem obtaining a Water Pump, but it hasn't come with a gasket.

In the Haynes it says use a Sealant and in the Porters Manual it says use another gasket?

As I haven't taken it off yet, what is correct?
Gasket or Sealant?

Thanks all.

the OHC engine uses sealant
the OHV engine needs a gasket so id guess yours needs sealant.
i wonder if the Porters manual is getting mixed up? not seen a Porters manual. how do they compare to Haynes?

Hey,

Its pretty easy to use the sealant on the water pump. When i replaced mine, there was a nice groove all the way around the pump where you fill with the sealant. IIRC you cant use a gasket with the pump because of different contours on it.

LYC is right, even with the ones that require a gasket you can get away with sealant if the old gasket was damaged.

Wurth do a very good sealant.

Both manuals are pretty good.
More illustartions in Porters i find.

Just not keen myself at using selants.

why not use sealants? when i worked in the workshops we used to use sealant on headgaskets jsut round the oil port to ensure it didnt leak. mind you that was on rovers so anything that helped one to not leak oil was a bonus!
oh yeah and i glued my cinq's rocker cover back on with the same sealant and it aint leaked yet.
you watch..itll develop a massive oil leak now ive said that!!

Id use sealant and a gasket if available, my thermostat was originally installed with a gasket but leaked like buggery, so I slapped on a load of Instant Gasket and its sealed now!
