A number of people have emailed or posted enquiries about a specific Seicento Version of the Performance Chip. So I thought I'd post a general update on progress so far.

The Original Cinq Performance Chip does work with the Seicento IAW 16F ME6 ECU, or with a Cinq IAW 16F ER ECU in a Seicento, but not perfectly. I now have a working version of a Seicento specific chip but for obvious reasons have concentrated on getting a version that works with my own car first. So Currently there are two options.

OPTION 1
You can buy the Cinq Performance Chip and this will will work with your car and will work in a cinq ECU or the Sei ECU. The chip has one drawback it that the car is more difficult to start. Its never failed to start but it can take 4 or 5 turns from the key when cold and intermittently a couple of turns when warm, though mostly when warm its OK. Provided you wait for the sensor warning light to go out first (which seems to take slightly longer than normal i.e. say 2 seconds). If you are wanting the chip for track days and want to swap ECUs then this would be the one to go for. It is fully performance tested and will come with the same money back guarentee.

OPTION 2
The second option, which at the moment has limited applicability, is a fully functional chip (i.e. the immobiliser still operates), which will only work in your original ECU. This will only work as a replacement for a chip of a particular version, however I'm not certain how long Fiat continued with the chip version (for some of the cinq versions they ran for years and some only a few months). It is easy to tell if your chip is the same version I just need the code that is printed on the label on the chip and I can check if it is compatible, and make sure the chip I send will work with your immobiliser.

I do not have detailed performance data for this chip as I have been concentrating on getting it fully running and have not had the opportunity to run full tests, but as it is basically the cinq version grafted on to a working original fiat programme (i.e. mine) I think it will have very similar performance characteristics, and it certainly seems to drive the same as the cinq version. This will be the chip to have if you want the chip for everyday use. The chip will be fully tested and the performance documented in time.

As there have been a number of enquiries, I thought I'd let people have the option of buying into the programme now. When I have the full package together I will be charging a bit higher price (perhaps £50 rather than £40) for the Sei chip as it has taken quite a bit of effort to come up with the new programme. As you will be one of the early users I would keep the price the same for the moment with the money guarentee and offer an at cost update if I produce any new versions.

In reality I would prefer to get on with some further development and get a universal version ready, and to see if I can get a cinq ECU to start a sei engine consistantly first turn, but I’m really busy at work and most of any spare time has been used for lowering my car, fitting some ICE and fitting a Novitec strut brace, which was a real pain :( , wasting my time for two half days at Nottingham Powerflow, Plus I will now have a zorst to fit this weekend.:D

I have a whole pile of hexadecimal chip data to analyse and compare, and 6 full programmes with various tweaks to test. It could be that the answers fall out after a few hours, a day, or a week, or a month (no not a month I'm sure I'd give up with the boredom before that). Oh and I've sold 9 chips so far, a total of £280, £100 has gone to my neighbour who has the programming and electronic design skills about £20 for materials and postage, leaving me £160 and a car that goes a bit faster. Why am I doing this !!! :bang:

So thats the current position, If your interested let me know.
sorry for the rant ,

Regards,

Michael

Michael,

I have a spare cinq ecu, but dont have a sei to run it on at the moment, you are more than welcome to test your chip on that.

Let me know and i will send it out to you.

Thanks for the offer Gaz, I have a cinq ECU for development, I am after a Sei ECU. if you hear of one going. What has happened to your old blown one?

Michael

Michael,

will option 2 of having the immobiliser still work on a cinq ECU?? I would probably buy one of those - its only the fact the immobiliser is immobilised on the current chip that is putting me off.

cheers.

the old one was given to fiat in an exchange for the new one

i will look around for a sei ecu, theres bound to be one knocking around in a scrap yard

what sort of kind are you looking for spi or mpi, does the different spec of seis have different ecu's

£160 aint that bad, better than a kick in the tits.

Do you know why the car with Chip1 doesn't start always?

Liam
Yea £160 for about 20 working days in total, and that doesn't include publicising the chip dealing with enquiries, not bad??????, I keep telling myself that I'm doing it for the challenge, Something very different from what I do for a living, exercises the grey matter. Mind you the mate who helps me works for himself and charges out at £1000 per day for not dissimilar stuff (mainly industrial control systems). So I paid for about an hour of his time, and got about 10 days.

I think that the starting problem relates to some additional mapping data for the sei that cannot be read by the Cinq ECU. So when the Cinq chip is in the Sei ECU the data isn't there, and when the Cinq chip is in the Cinq ECU the programme isn't even looking for the data.

I suspect that either the sensors are a slightly different spec on the Sei or that the ECU is more discriminating in the way it uses the signals. The question is which data (there is quite a lot of it.)

Michael

I suppose it keeps you busy and learns you something new though, if it's not regimented your regime I mean then just take it at your own pace, once you have perfected the Chip you can then reap the rewards and maybe make it for other models, non Fiat included.

I also think if you didn't do it no one else would have so well done!
