I got sick of having to look around (other than in my mirrors) every time I wanted to change lanes in my Cinq, so I went and ordered these from DealExtreme (26574 - around £2.40)

Just wondering, if they are covering this much of the original glass would they be road legal? (I haven't stuck them on yet).

I know you can get proper blind spot mirrors for Cinqs which would look nicer but they cost loads, and I could only find an offside one

btw they do work better than in the pictures, it's just a bit iffy trying to take a decent picture of them...

Problem with blind spot mirrors is that they're to distorted to be anything more than a hint you need to look over your shoulder to judge the speed & placement of the car anyway. IF you want to do something get a decent 120 degree rear view mirror, I've got one on the turbo Sei & it's really good, however it needs a cage to mount & cost about £150.

There was a driving instructor / motoring journalist on TV a few years ago (his name will come to me later) that used to call the look over the shoulder the 'Suicide Look' because if you didn't do it you may as well commit suicide.

EDIT: Paul Ripley was the guy. And aparantly he called it the 'Lifesaver Look' so I was nearly right.

Anyone who's ever ridden a motorcycle calls them 'lifesavers' iirc

In heavy town traffic I find myself doing more shoulder checks than side mirror checks. I find it quite difficult to judge distances when using the Seicento's tiny mirrors.

Ok, "I got sick of having to look around" was obviously the wrong thing to put (for several reasons)...

I can be bothered, I'm a careful driver and it's not like I have a bad neck - but I've indicated, glanced over my shoulder to see someone more than a safe distance back, started to pull over and then have had them blaring their horn at me as they rush past - rather than staying back and letting the other car out like most people would - so I wanted to be able to carry on monitoring them.

I'm also a bit paranoid about looking away as I've had the car in front previously a safe distance away suddenly get (a lot) closer between looking away and back due to their breaking (not me adding speed on).

However seen as you guys think these kinds of mirror are a bit crap I'll persevere but be more careful of d**kheads that don't want to risk getting stuck behind a city car.

i run them on the punto, great aid for parking also. not sure if they would cover oo much on the sei..

:yeahthat:

I might load footage later of me driving and this 'lifesaver' look preventing me from getting side swipped by a Merc Sprinter Van on the dual carrageway!

Reviewing the footage showed me just how vital that check is ;)

it sounds like you can't judge speed of other things on the road too well. just stick with looking over your shoulder, there really is no need for these mirrors on a cinquecento.

iirc the seicento has a wider angle rear view mirror, if anything - just get one of them.

hm maybe, I still think the other driver didn't help much (I had indicated to pull out, and not put it on as I was starting to move).

Roundie Sei mirrors don't suit a Cinq imo.

I recently noticed using the coat hook renders looking over your right shoulder (with the window up) almost pointless :p

i dont mean the wing mirrors, i mean the rear view mirror that sticks to the windscreen.

re the other drive.. just because you've indicated you want to come out, doesn't override his right of way, if i was passing traffic at speed i certainly wouldn't brake to let someone out !!

Ah, you did originally say rear view, not wing mirror... sorry :)

Neither would I, but he/she wasn't passing at speed, the other car was slowly creeping up from far enough away and most people in that situation would let the other driver out into the fast lane.

Diving hugely OT, but in reply to above.

Driving in the overtaking lanes of multiplte carriageway roads, yiu should be aware of the needs of other drivers.

Cheers

I just think nowadays people are expect to just dive out when they indicate! and expect everyone to just let them out! bad idea i think, always check and change lanes if is safe to do so and not expect nothing from other drivers!

As for the mirrors, I also think that it is a bit pointless in the cinq!

Thanks
Ming
