recently i was driving along and as it was so hot my passenger and i decided to put the windows down. later when the sun went in my passenger put his window up the exterior window rubber lifted out and ended up half way up the glass. so i stopped and had a look at my side to see how to fix it however when i put my window up mine did the same thing.

now after loads of pushing them back in, they are both trashed. so if anyone has any spare that would be great as right now if it rains my doors are going to fill up with water!

anyone else had this problem?

Buy the seals new from fiat £8 a few months back

I had to take the whole inner doorcard off to re-fit the new ones as mine came out as well on the passenger side (but it was very worn and just about perished so good thing it did) but there are different ways of refitting it

It seems pretty common... my N/S trim/seal has come out of its groove out... a real PITA in the summer when you open the windows ever journey!

The nearest Fiat dealer is over an hour away... where should I buy a new trim?

Does £8 just get you the rubber seal, or the plastic bit to which it attaches as well?

Gets you all of it and i need to get a new one as well.

They're not worth trying to re-fit.

I had this episode a few months back with my Sei - both sides!

Interesting... the seal looks fine, but I can't for the life of me get them back into the plastic window liner. Maybe I just need to be patient and lever it back in.

You can do, but to do it successfully really you need to take the plastic bit off the car; then slot the rubber bit back into it, then put both back on the car as one piece. I did this myself; it took many hours and the dismantling of both doors.

However, microscopic pieces of grit had got into the felt cushioning that contacts the window surface; meaning every time the window was opened little scratches appeared on the window. My rubbers had looked fine, couldn't feel any grit in them. So I cut my losses and went to a fiat dealer and bought the lot (both plastic & rubber pieces, pre-joined) for around £22. If I had realised I could just buy the rubber part I would have, as it doesn't come back out once you've put it back into the plastic properly. Thus I had to dismantle both doors again. As fingers99 says, there's a way of doing it without taking the door cards off, but I didn't attempt that as I didn't want to cause damage the the paintwork by levering it with a screwdriver... If you try this be aware the plastic piece doesn't come off towards you... It moves AWAY from you towards the window first, then lift it out. It requires a lot of force.

Mine came out the other day as well.

So on the oustide of the vehicle, the hard plastic covering strip pull off, as if you are pulling it INTO the vehicle? I may try adn pull it off first then, and jsut fit a new rubber.

I had no luck trying to reuse the old one that came out.

Yes, it levers up and over a metal lip which holds it on, the metal lip points outwards so the plastic bit moves in a kind of circular movement upwards and towards the car. Even with the door card off, I found it difficult to get off with just my fingers under it and used a screwdriver wrapped in a cloth, though it's easy to damage both the plastic strip and the paintwork that way

IIRC, it's damn near impossible to join it to the hard plastic strip while the plastic strip is still on the car.

My window strips are bugging me so much I've decided to do something about it.
After re-reading this thread I've decided to get FIAT to do it... Vale Motors (nearest dealer) wanted 11.90 plus £8ish for fitting. I'm getting it done next week and will report back on the secret of doing it without removing the door cards.

I actually removed and refitted both the inner and outer. I replaced the outer, did the inner just to see if it was hard, and then refitted it.

It wasn't too hard at all. Took about 10 mins total. I didn't need to remove the glass or the door card.

fiat dealership have a special tool for changing them had both of mine changed in less than 10 mins 12 euro per side for the part on my 1997 cinq

mine came out and i cant be assed to have them looked at right now. i will go to the dealers cause it is doing my head in. at the moment im running without the rubber seal and as someone said im getting little scratches.

hopefully in a few weeks i will have the cash and sort it out! glad to know im not alone tho!

The mechanic made it look depressingly easy and it took 5 minutes MAX poking around with a hook shaped tool. He said that he hadn't done it before...

Yet he still managed to put a fresh scratch (back to primer) into my n/s door :(

Ah well at least passengers can open the window now without me telling them off.

Hey Beecon,

where abouts did you get yours done? Im in somerset 2 but cant seem to find anywhere good to get it sorted. how much did it cost? See you around sometime!

My nearest dealer is Vale motors FIAT/Subaru/Isuzu in Wincanton. There's another dealer near Weston.

There aren't many from down south with centos it seems... where in somerset are you? I'm half way between Yeovil and Taunton, not far from Langport.

It came to just over £30. Go back in time and I'd probably do it myself.

EDIT: Stoke on Trent??!! :D
