Seicento engine swap... which engine?

Ok,

So the mrs's seicento sporting is leaking to fook out of the engine somewhere and after already paying for a new head gasket etc on it only a few months ago I'm sick to death of this ****ty engine which was once great. lol.

If I could get a decent sei engine, is it an easy swap?

Or what punto engines are an easy swap? I know people will probably say try searching, but I don't seem to be able to locate anything . lol.

I imagine it would be pretty fun with a decent punto engine... any ideas on costs if the works too much to carry out alone? I have 3 weeks to get a car on the road for a trip down to the Isle of Wight and would be awesome if I could sort this out as i'm skint in reality lol.

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

IS it MPI or SPI ?

IF SPI - get punto 60 - 1.2 engine
IF MPI - GET Punto 75 - 1.2 engine.

Yup yup easy swap, just retain the original engine mounts from the sei engine, bolt it onto the punto engine, then just bolt it onto the car

For the cinq, it needs a 10-15mm spacers for the exhaust mani, not sure if the sei needs it .

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

It is a 1.1 Sporting, sorry about that... everything makes it sound so easy... does that mean I should get the 1.2 75?

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

What year is the car? Or is the airbox round or square?

A sporting could be SPI or MPI. SPI = single point injection, MPI = Multi Point injection.

You need to identify this before you can proceed.

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

Its a 2001 X Reg... I can't quite remember about the shape of the airbox at the minute as its at hers and i'm here . Found a few 75 engines but i'm thinking it may be an spi possibly because of the age?

The front bumper has black bits if that helps rather than the body coloured strips (near the fog lights). lol.

I think its an SPI now, as before I was looking at the mckritch chips .

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

Ok so what exactly does removing the engine of a seicento involve... everyone says it easy. But is it something you can do on your drive without some proper ramps? What kind of a price would you expect a garage to charge for it if it is a little more difficult than everyone makes it sound. lol.

I'm still no closer to figuring out the mpi or spi though and the mrs can't even see the air filter box... lol.

A garage will charge you 400 to 500 quid and there's no guarantee that that engine will be better than the one that's in there.

Not a difficult DIY job, but far easier as a rule to find out where the leak is coming from and sort it if the engine is otherwise OK. What is it leaking?

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

your gonna have to get under and have a look to narrow down where the leaks from
could be as simple as a loose filter

Re: Seicento engine swap... which engine?

Flat battery, or more serious?

By far the most straightforward swap is another MPI Sei engine. A post 2001 Punto engine should be OK, too, but check with the Puntistas and -- unless it is 1108, you probably need the manicat, too.

Punto 75s can be done, but finding a P75 engine in good nick is pretty difficult: most seem to have had the ******** caned off them and to have very scanty servicing.

Any FIRE engine can be made to fit and work fine, but if an oil leak and a head gasket frighten you, I'd stay clear.

Clean off and find the source of the leak............

Something more serious than the battery i'm afraid, . I think this trip isn't going to happen lol. Theres a puma I could try fix but the issues with that are just as bad but involving brakes lol.
