My buddy with a '97 cinq 899 is having ECU issues and we're wondering if he got the ecu, code box and a single blue key from another car would that transplant ok into his? what he's got lined up doesn't have the red key, is that essential?

Thanks
James

Mate stupid solution, get an early cinq 899 ECU, they are all decoded so basically plug and play. Meaning you can keep your keys etc etc..

I have sold 2 already and got none left now, but find one from a scrappy, won't be expensive.

thanks

Do you have to do something in particular to make the ECU/code block forget the keys? As we've had a Sporting and two S and have never had this problem.

A fix before it happens is to have another blue key (or two) cloned (cut and coded) from the existing one, also handy if you lost one of them ;)

I went to a Fiat dealer for the Sporting's key and they cloned an existing blue, they didn't bother with the red key at all. There are other places that do the same for far cheaper, I can't remember the name atm but they have been mentioned on here before.

Also, if you're only fitting the ecu and code block, but still using the old ignition barrel and key to turn it you might have problems with both keys being read at once, or the wrong one being read, which would mean the ECU would refuse to start the engine.

.nice to see you posting Jim. Long time no see! Moved onto something more modern now or you still got minis?

Can some one please answer a question regarding an ECU. My son in law recently sold one to chrisPGT after he advertised for a 899 coded ecu. my s.i.l. offered him a ignition ecu a code box and a full lockset 1 red and 2 blue keys all door barrels and ignition barrel all came off his p reg cinq he had previosly had problems with his car due to the keys he received with it being cloned. the car wouldnot start. he then found a virgin ecu a virgin code box and a full set of keys with a transponder in the red key. When he first put all of this on his car it started first time but the code light kept flashing, then he was told how to code the key to the code box. this resulted in the car starting and the code light going off. chrisPGT as now realised he required a ecu for a 1108 sei and wishes to return the one he bought incorretly. As it was sold in good faith my s.i.l. declined. now chris as opened a dispute with pay pal due to in my opinian a fals statement by ycming ie early cinq ecu's were not coded My question is if the code light comes on when the ignition is turnrd to mar and gose out when the engine is running is the ecu coded or not?

'Early' 899s did not have an immobiliser fitted as standard, therefore they do not have a code box attached to them, therefore I would consider that these are regarded in this forum as 'uncoded'.

An 899 ECU will run an 1108 SPi, without problems, although the rev counter won't work.

If there is a code light the car should have an immobiliser fitted, but the fitting of an 899 ECU will allow the car to work.

The ECU of a 'coded' car needs a signal from the code box that the correct chip is in the key.

The early 899 ECUs are not looking for a coded signal therefore do not even know what a code is.

Cheers

virgin ecus have no key data stored on them, the moment you put a coded key into the ignition itll pick the code off the key and program that into the ecu and save it.

hence if you have been sold a blank virgin ecu and you have already coded it, that ecu is now only good to that car, if i was a seller i 100% would not take a return on it if it has been coded.
