Just been going over the cinq i bought off ebay - one of the issues i uncovered was the flywheel cover has rusted away to nothing and what is left is rubbing on the plate and vibrating...



How much gubbins needs to be removed to replace it? Is it a sump off job?

split the g/box and stick a new one on. Never seen that problem before

Or -- run without, just chop off what's left. I can't remember whether you need to split the box to replace the bottom part.

You don't on the 1108cc engines, on some of the the 1.2 8v & the 16v engines you do.

Looks like its been sitting in a puddle, take it off and chuck the remains away. No need to split the box on an 1108.

Good stuff - its an 1108. Dont know if i fancy running without it for too long, one badly placed stone could surely leave an expensive repair bill? Had considered bodging a new one up out of a bit of galvy sheet, just using the accessible mounting points...

I've got one you can have for a squid and postage, but I've run one car without for years without problems. Would be a very oddly projected stone to do any damage.
