my sei sporting has a really bad prob. it wont go into gear. you have to give it some proper welly to get it onto first and second and it grinds reverse all the time.. i know sei boxes are touchy but this is worse than it was. it feels like the clutch isn't down enough but my foot is to the floor... could it be the thrust bearing or something nice an simple.
If not what could it be and how much is it gonna cost....

If you have a look through some of the older threads on centos, there are similar problems resulting from clutch cables not being adjusted properly. Also, older boxes should have a synthetic oil in them, again from reading other threads, I gather the gearbox oil should be changed every 50K. Would expect the issue to lie with the clutch cable adjustment.

Mine does something like that occasiopnally, because I havent adjusted my cable right, try winding a few more turns onto the clutch cable (theres a black plastic nut near the exhaust manifold)

thanks. what do i need to adjust the cable and where are the adjustment points....this is my first time working on a fiat.. the clutch post says it should be at 110mm but what does

Well, I just adjust mine auntil the clutch is about 1" below the brake pedal with the both pedals released, then do up the locknut, and it will adjust itself as the clutch wears itself in!

i know am being a pain but is this black plastic nut near the manifold gasket or up near the actual manifold where it is bolted onto the engine an what size is the nut...thanks for all your help. much appreciated

Erm its a hard one to describe.

Find the gearbox near the RHS of the engine bay. Theres a big metal arm near the front and also near the passenger side wheel, find the end of that, its on there.

There should be a 10, maybe 13mm locknut and the adjustment nut is a big plastic job, yu can turn that by hand

thanks for all you help but i am now covered in dirt and it's still broken so am gonna take it to a garage tommorow... they can fix it an i'll pay the bill...cos am fed up wiv cars...i know that's blasfamy (spelt wrong) but i don't care cos i feel like setting the bloody thing on fire....so thanks again an i'll let you know the outcome and the price.....

Carla, the Gearbox in the Sporting isnt like that...its only the 899cc....trust me, I tried.

I tried to drain it from the CV joint when I did the engine swap, but It wouldnt even leak! The oil only lubes the gears inside the main case- the CV joints and that gubbins are lubricated by grease!

I had the gearbox vertical at one point- with the transaxle? (Is that the name for the bit the CV joints go into ?) pointing downwards, and I still couldnt get any oil out...

Like water and rocks. :D

hello.
right.. what ever little angel had the sei b4 me had already over tightened the tension bolt. this caused some stretching in the cable and led to something inside the clutch burning out cos it was rubbing against something else.

dunno what this is what the specialist told me at our local transmission garage. he said he could rebuild the clutch but it might not be the same as before for £120 or he could order in an original brand new fiat one for £167.97 including VAT parts and labour so i opted for the new one.

this includes warranty, fiat part garantee and a little service on my gearbox as well. this garage is in garston, liverpool and if you are in this area and would like the details i can send em to ya...

thanks again for your help...

LOL I got images now !!!!

Glad you've (hopefully) got your problem sorted !! :D

Well, I know this much, a 3-part clutch kit is around £60, well mine was anyway.

Id think much above 5hrs labour is excessive, say a max price of £150-170 inc parts+ labour!
