on a fiat cinq, n reg, i have a small black box about 2"x3" on the top of engine bay on the right, it houses 2 square plugs?/fuses?, it is ticking everytime i turn the engine on, (its not starting at the moment but this keeps ticking)
i havent noticed this before, i need to know what this does and if its the reason why it wont start. see lower thread..car wont start...help for more info.

thankyou should it stay on all the time the ignitions on even though it wont start? also would it make the dashboard light of an injecter (which normally would come on and then go out) not come on at all?
sorry for more questions but i know nothing about cars and i need to order the part.
thanks

The injector light should come on (after you rotate the key) and go out (in a few seconds) the relay should click as you turn the key.

Does the engine turn over when you attempt to start at the normal speed it had been previously, when attempting to start it?

hi, the injecter light now doesnt come on at all, although it did like you said for a few seconds.
the engine wont turn over now, there's this constant "ticking" from the box all the time the key is turned on.
weve charged the battery, all the lights/electrics work.

Ok the relay should click once, but if the starter does not turn the engine over in a spirited way that is the first problem we have to cure.

Three things can be wrong or more than one of three things.

The battery is past its best before date.
One or both of the battery leads is damaged
One or all of the lead connections is bad (four - two at the battery two (or more at) at the car.

If you jump lead the car it will tell us more is that possible?

Noel

i live in a remote area and have no1 near with a car who can try using jump leads.
i have to order parts on line and they cant help me unless i tell them what part it is,i am only going on the previous posting about this thing.
this morning when i tried to start it, it fired up once, thinking (because were covered in snow!) the engine had warmed up,i turned the engine off after abouts 5 min's. then went to start it again and the engine turned over a couple of times on a bump start but never actually went, pushed it back home, charged the battery, tried again and nothing, just this constant ticking noise from the box all the time the key is turned on.
thanks for trying to help me.

You may not need parts.

If you had charged the other battery, and one or both are in resonable condition then that eliminates the battery.

We have damaged cables or contimination at the ends of the cables, so clean the connectors on both batteries with wire brush/sand paper and apply grease, vaseline or preferable copper slip to the terminals while they are shiny like silver.

Same to inner parts of battery leads, grease these as well, than connect to battery terminals. Connect up best battery and it may start ok.

P.S. if you have two batteries you should have a pair of jump leads,as well, If the car has a CAT you should not be bump starting
