2. '''M.''

3. ''N.''

4. ''KPS''

Sorry for my english, not my native lanquage.

It it still leaks oil, tightening it up more, may cause damage.

A new gasket is cheaper than a salvage to repair any damage.

I assume you mean that when it leaks it should Not tighten it up more?

Hi Menno

Your English is excellent.

If the gasket is old or damaged it may leak even if you tighten it up too much, but you dont want to damage any of the fastners, so although a new gasket is dear, it is best to be cautious and get one, if it leaks on your first attempt.

Repair of cars is difficullt, without all the tools.

seems some people always have trouble with the cam gasket.

first off... the cam cover itself has bits cast into it that hit the surface of the head. this means when you tighten the bolts up, the second you feel the bolt go tight, that is it. doing it up more wont compress the gasket more.
forget the torque wrench just "nip" the bolts up.

Second... when fitting a new gasket be sure BOTH surfaces are free of oil.

the way i do it is. clean oil from both head and cover. then apply a thin bead of instant gasket into the cover on the over. now press the new gasket into this grove, then a small amount on top of the rubber gasket then fit.

I gotta receipt for the official Fiat gasket that may use the 'bits cast into' the cover as location.

I do sometimes use wet gaskets, as you describe but I always use a releasing agent on one surface, so that the wet gasket can be reused.

sorry i ment that there is like lumps cast into the cam cover itself (also the gasket does slot into a grove in the cam cover)
you can see this by fitting the cover without the gasket, you will see that the cover sits a good 5mm higher then the head (thickness of the gasket) I just said this to make a point that tightening the cover to spec wont stop oil leaks. they just need to nip them tight. (i use a 10mm socket on a screwdrive type extention.)
