Howdy people.

I'm considering upgrading my car in the very near future for something more powerful and less bumpy. Now when i come to sell the car I have the dilema whether to break the car for parts or to try and sell it as complete.

Now obviously I will be able to sell most of Punto the parts on the Punto forums, but I need to know how much my engine gearbox and running gear is worth. The car is running very very well and shifts for the small engine that it has.

Here is the engine spec:

1242 8v spi
6 Speed close ratio Box
Dastek Unichip
Fully lightened/zero balanced bottom end
Total seal piston rings
Pistons acid bathed
Gas flowed head
larger inlet and exhaust ports
Polished valves
Lightened and Balanced fly Wheel
High Lift Cam
ITG Induction kit
ITG Oil Breather
Magnecore HT leads
K&N Vacuum filter
Powder Coated Engine components

The engine has covered 14,000 miles since it was re conditioned and installed into my car. It was modified and tuned by UAD tuning based in London. Full cost paid for the work by UAD came in at approximately £2000. The engine was run in for 1000 miles before it was taken above 4000 rpm.

To ensure that the engine was running correctly, a Dastek Unichip was installed and set up at G Force located in Aylesbury. It was rolling roaded showing the following power:
Power – 83.4bhp @ 5300 rpm (figure to flywheel- recorded @ G Force Motorsport)

The car is currently runing on my 1108 ecu with the Dastek set up to ensure that it is running correctly. I also have a spare 1242 ECU with coded box, coded key spare wiring loom door locks etc. This is ideal for anyone that has a car with a coded key. Mine as it is an early Punto does not have a coded key.

The engine has not been thrashed and maintained and services by myself Meticulously. The engine has no problems at all, starts everytime and is veryvery reliable. For an engine tuned to this state the MPG is still very reasonable.

So the question is, how much do you think the engine is worth if i decide to break the car. It would make an ideal transplant for a cinq/sei and would make for a serious rapid car.

Here's a picture....

I'd appreciate your thoughts and opinions.

Cheers Russ.

I've had a look at the rolling road graph. looks like its just under 90 ftlb of torque. (I think)

Reckon I would have much interest with the Cinq/Sei owners? Whats the going rate for a standard 1242 and 6 speed box?

Might consider without the Unichip. That was a fair ammount of cash on its own.

low mile std 1242 can be had for around £150, not sure about the 6speed box. Arent the ratios on the 6speed rather close and the final gear a bit short?

Yeh i have heard the six speed box kills your top end but acceleration is amazing. Without the chip theres nothing really special about it. Can get a punto 60 engine for £100-£150.

I'd be interested in the 1242 engine and the box, let me know when you know what money your looking for.

Averyone else, where do u get these punto engines & the prices mentioned in the post? anyone got anynumbers? the only places i've found are chraging £250 ish (with the throttle body)

Cheers all

TBH the top speed with the gear box is around 100-110mph (indicated on speedo).

And in a small car like the cinq/sei's im not sure that you would want to go much faster than that. Around down its very rapid and the box gives you that extra bit of fun. Besides I thought the gearbox was a 'must have' mod for you guys.

Is that including the wiring loom, gearbox, a recon and correct ecu to run it? Not to mention the mods.

i wouldnt say theres nowt special apart from the chip, theres some serious lovin gone into that engine
Cheers mate.

Are the mods that have been done are fairly common amoungst the Cinq/Sei owners?

Total mods including the cost of engine come to over £2500

Would an asking price of £500 be too much you think??

Just need to wiegh up whether its better to break or sell as a complete car.

Just out of curiousity, why does the engine look all backwards? I've got an 899cc Sei (the 1.2 won't be any good :-( ), but my battery's near the brake fluid, the ECU's just above where the battery is and wait a moment, where's the coolant? lol, the engine's also the opposite way round!

The engine is the same way around. I have a punto, not a Sei so most components are in different places.

As for the engine, it would be a direct swap so would fit yours.

I think its something about the wiring loom and the drive shafts, its something like that, i don't know too much about engines but i remember hearing on here quite a few times that its a very big job

Like i say i would give £500 for the engine, ECU and gearbox. I take it you have the chip in the 1108 ECU and not the original punto one. Shouldn't need the wiring loom as both cars have the same ECU wiring as i understand it. Pete?

The car is running on the 1108 Punto ECU with the Dastek, but also a spare 1242 ecu which the car can run on.
