Hi guys

I think I have cracked the cylinder head gasket on the car (2001 Seicento 1.1), how likely is it that the head might be cracked aswell? Has anyone any experience of this and costs involved?

Thanks

Aaron

has it massively overheated? if so, then yeah it is possible, but not common to have damaged the head.

I would say anything more than £250 for a garage to do the job is too much. But then if it were me i'd do it myself. The first job i ever did on my (or any!) car was the head gasket, armed with a haynes manual and a toolkit. easy peasy. just make sure you skim the head as well to ensure it is flat.

I think it might be the head gasket as there is lots of water coming out of the exhaust pipe and once the car goes over 40 mph it starts to stutter. I could be wrong, not the best when it comes to engines lol

What level is the oil on the dip stick?

You forget a number of mates that have done the same thing before - I recall being sat outside your place in the 1242 discussing how it sounded rougher than a badgers arse, then realising that the cam bearings were buggered.

Yes, theres too much error in a mechanic's 'straight' edge - theyre normally not sufficiently true over the full length to give anything more than a maybe.
