was wondering if anyone could help

my sei failed its MOT as it failed the emmisions test. the lambda sensor was at fault.. a mechanic mate fitted a new one for me today.. when it got re-tested the lambda sensor emissions was within the tolerance boundaries but still high??

has anyone experienced this? has the ecu gotta 'learn' as the sensor is new? someone sugested disconecting the battery to re-set the ecu?! but F**k that! lol.. it has passed.. so im not that fussed...

but any ideas?

thanks in adavnce

alfie

It may be worth disconnecting battery, doesn't take long after all, and then let the car relearn again - although be prepared for a strange driving experience during this process...

Have you an induction kit fitted? In my experience this usually raises the emissions at idle a little. The silver one has been borderline 3 years running.

Resetting the ecu is a little more complex than disconnecting the battery though, the procedure is explained in the Haynes manual but I could regurgitate it for you if you need. If it runs ok, I wouldn't bother as it will adapt on the fly to anything new. Only time I found it useful was when I fitted the 1242.

cheers pete! :)

nah theres no induction :( (insurance)

ill just leave it then i think... it runs really well so theres no point i guess.

cheers guys! :)

I had same problem on my Cinq, faulty lambda sensor, it wouldnt let the car idle at the right rpm for the emissions test, car was running fine but had to change the sensor for the MOT

Could put some carbon cleaner in your petrol to clear the engine out and just give it a good thrashing 6k or if ya feel lucky bounce it off the limiter. The question is do ya feel lucky. Well do ya punk
