hi there everyone new to the forum as i have just purchased a little 1997 cinq sport last night and i love her to bits already lol i have noticed the clutch pedal is extremely stiff when engaging and getting the car into gear etc what could this be could it be the clutch cable? can it be adjusted or if i buy a new one are they cheap to fit? many thanks to anyone who can help hope to post on here often a great site cheers ps i wanting to give the car a complete restore process so you will see more of me sorry lol

Welcome

Read the FAQs, but while clutch cables are listed as an 'issue', they are usually an 'effect' rather than a 'cause'.

While you may get a bit more life adjusting/replacing the cable, complete replacement of the clutch is the inevitable result.

Cheers

PD

thank you very much for your reply how much is a complete clutch and how much am i looking at to replace? i dont want to be spending alot so could a cable help??? also silly question will wd40 help with the stiffness lol

I bought a cinq with a new clutch cable and the difference is amazing, nearly booted the bulkhead through:rolleyes:

One of the beauties about these cars it that you can do so much for yourself so don't ask how many hours labour it will take, ask could i do it myself and what is involved (y) Swapping the clutch cable is a great place to start saving on those daft garage prices

I've done so many clutch cable swaps now that it takes me 20 mins and that is including a tea break :D to swap it all that is involved is 4 screws 2 bolts and 2 nuts, but I guess a garage would still charge you an hours labour plus the cable it's self (£15 to £20)

many thanks for all your help i was given a haynes book when i purchased the car so i may have a go myself lol but i will leave it till after xmas first i am use to the stiffness now dont think the misses will lol oh err missis lol
