I have a N reg 1996 cinquecento 900. Been having overheating problems, changed the thermostat, pump and fan switch, then the head gasket went. Took the head off and noticed the head and block faces badly pitted beyond repair. I sourced an engine for £100, striped it down, reseated the valves with a top and bottom gaskets and seals. Engine started first time but the bloody thing is still overheating after several mins on tickover. Have bleeded the system still no joy. Any ideas on what to check next:bang: Could it be that the radiator is choked up causing flow problems, even though I have flushed it through.

I need to change the inner driveshaft boots, I have an extra long bearing puller to remove the bearing, does anyone out there know the best thing to use to drive the bearing back on the shaft;)

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick reply; the fan does kick in but not until about 100deg. The switch is recent and is working the same as the one I took out. There was a lot of loose rust flackes around the bore cooling chambers, I guess these may have lodged themselves in the radiator cores over time causing cool spots near to the radiator switch. Looks like I will have to put my hand in my pocket and get a new one.

:)Thanks for that, Just one more question, will nylon pull fasteners be ok to use or should get myself some steel band and a tensoner?

:)Picked up the two inner CV boots from my motor factor, good news both boots had the bearing banded in them and the n/s boot also came with a steel band that only needed pinching together with nail pullers, the cost of this job 40 quid.

Ordered a new radiator on line delivered £47.50, hopefully this will cure the overheating problem.

My wife has owned this car from 1 year and it only has 34000 miles, there is not a spot of rust and the inertior is like new and over the years has needed very little spending on it apart from the usual service. Took it for a spin yesterday and the new engine sounds lovely and is very quick. All in all it was worth spending the money, it was a little more costly in my time, but it should now go on for a few more years.

Does anybody know if you can buy the gearbox linkage bush on its own, the nylon one is ok, its just the rubber one is a little frayed.

Well the new radiator has solved the overheating problem, it must have been well choked up. Very impressed with Advanced Radiators www.adrad.co.uk/ placed an order on Sunday, on Monday was sent an email saying dispatched at 0930, received Tuesday morning.
