Hi all I thought I would bring you all a bit of sunshine, I have been reading your messages for several weeks now and have decided to take the plunge as how friendly you all seem.

I have just bought a lovely little red cinquecento sporting 1.2 from an auction but before I could get to a garage it ran out of petrol, So I filled her up and added some redex and she has ran ok for the past couple of weeks but I would like to change the fuel filter.

I located it a sort of metal canaster halfway underneath the car next to the exhorst pipe (whoever put it there ought to be sacked!!!).

The fiat dealer quoted £16 is there a cheaper filter option available and where could I locate one.

I come from near Norwich

Thanks all

welcome to the forum :)

As pete said, that'd be the fuel filter. Having changed mine with the car on very low inspections ramps in a car park - i can recomend getting the car high enough to get underneath it properly! You will spill fuel when doing it, but heres how i minised spilling it!
Remove the cap from the outlet end of the new filter. Loosen the clips holding the current filter in. If you disconnect the end that runs to the front of the car first, place the spare cap (from the new filters outlet) on the end of the current fuel filter and attach the new filter to the now free fuel line. The rest is pretty obivous, using the caps may have been too - but thought i'd mention it just in case :)

Are you sure its 1.2 sporting btw - the standard sporting was only a 1.1, tho a 1.2 punto engine can be easily transplanted, its a common mod.

You are probably right it says in the manuel its 1108 cc which I thought would be classed as a 1.2 litre as it said in the window when I bought it from the auction, I hav'nt got the log book back yet!!
Thanks for the indepth explanation on how to change the filter I will probably still get covered in petrol (good job I dont smoke then!!!).

I still think £16 for a filter is a bit pricey as when I changed one on my uno it only cost £2.99 and takes about 2 mins to fit as it was in the engine compartment.

The next thing Ive got to look at will be the clutch as it seems to making a rattling noise when in nutruel but is as quite as a lamb when I press the clutch to the floor

Speak soon when Ive soaked up all the petrol.

Cheers

Yes, yu will get covered in petrol. dont wear any jewellery as that'll stink too.

Rattling noise in neutral...hmm thinking clutch maybe!

Its not the gear stick thats making a rattling noise its more like a tap tap taping coming from the engine. the gears are not very smooth to get in and out.

Geuss wot I got covered in petrol cause it is under presure until u undo the pipe then it sprays all over u. By the way I replaced the fuel filter on my wifes uno but the brand new filter from a fiat dealer was cracked, i thought it was amazing they had one in stock at the time.

hi and welcome to the forum

have you noticed any difference since fitting it?

Hi, we're not too bad on here really :)

That is the fuel filter you found, best place to buy one is Fiat as the Champion replacement is too short to fit properly.

i found this out the hard way, a five minute job took over an hour after having to make a new fuel line

Yep there is a difference there used to be a flat spot about half way but now it accelerates all the way through and it starts first time.I did change the air filter at the same time.
