I'm baffled... I have changed the antifreeze and then bled the system, no probs with the lower bleed point but the upper one is causing some bafflement. After a while I got the heater working OK and my plan was run it up to temp and use the pressure in the system to carefully bled the upper point. So i gingerly undid the upper bleed screw expecting air then coolant out but there's nothing. Surely the whole system is under some pressure. I even dibbled water down the tube revved the engine and nothing happened? does the bleed tube suffer from blockages or does it just never bleed the air????

Thanks Kritip, whats got me baffled is when I took the upper bleed screw out at full temp there was nothing.... no escaping air or water:confused:

C'mon chaps any ideas on the top bleeding point and why I can't get any fluid out:confused:

The coolant level may or may not be sufficiently high enough for it to go up the tube (it's uphill from the block, after all).

Cool the thing right down.. take the reservoir cap off and take the bleed screw out.

Top the reservoir up to Max and then start the engine. Coolant *should* start to come out of the bleed hole.

If it doesn't, cup your mouth round into the reservoir aperature and blow into it, to pressurise the reservoir. That will force coolant up the heater pipe and out the hole. Hold this pressure while someone screws in the bleed screw.. then release.

Job done!

Don't get antifreeze in your mouth or on your lips or you'll die. It's pretty nasty stuff.

Thanks for the tips chaps I was expecting a pressurised system to provide the means of pushing the coolant through but I'll give it a go cold.
I usually prefer my spirits with a dash of soda so I'll have some standing by if I get a mouthful of Chateau Halfords 2008:)

I think it does, eventually. But on Titch I noticed that the heater only sorted itself out once I'd given it a helping hand.

Yes.. antifreeze isn't so toxic that it'll kill you on the spot.. but it is harmful. Trouble is, it looks so harmless. When you give your reservoir a puff, use a clean cloth round the lip or wipe it with a wet cloth first.
