Hi All :)

My brother bought a Cinqucento S (N Reg, only 44,444 miles on the clock) and is already wanting to do a few mods to it... essentially taking a sporting model that is being broken near to here and changing suspension, rear brakes and wheels over but leaving engine alone for the time being.

I got a phonecall from him about 30 mins ago, asking what the differences are between the 2 but my field of knowledge is with the Ford RS marque so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if:

Is it possible to do this, just drop everything coming off the hubs on the front and rear and directly transplant them on to the S model? From what he was saying, the

Also the sporting model that's being broken has a SS exhaust, are there any bits we can take off that as the standard exhaust has got a pretty bad blow around the middle box, which does make the car sound a bit more lilke my RS2000 :p

just need to find out whether there are any other differences between the 2 models as he might be able to get the whole car for a tenner more than the parts he wants, so want to know whether this would be worth while :)

Cheers!

Chris

it is worth taking the springs if they are good condition, as the sporting sits 20mm lower than a S standard

You may also want to take the ARB as well from the sporting as the S doesnt have one.

The B/box from the SS exhaust will go on with a bit of welding etc, unsure if the whole system is suited for a S

The brakes are the same whether its an S or a Sporting, so don't bother, unless for spares.

Springs, as above, are worth it, the top mounts, whilst the same, can be worth having if they are in better knick than the ones on the S.

The rear part of the exhaust can be fitted with a bit of sleeving, but the front end is entirely different.

The 899 has the TB at the front and the exhaust at the rear, the 1108 is the other way round, so the exhaust manifold and front pipe are entirely different path, let alone a larger bore.

If its breaking I know a man in Glasgow who is looking for part of the gearlinkage mount from a Sporting.

Pm Ycming and he would probably close that £10 gap.

Cheers

Cheers fella, would it be a simple bolt on and play situation or would the chassis need any mods?

btw, I was really suprised by the performace of the s, had to drive it from the previous owner's house and even with a blowing exhaust, I managed to get it up to 80mph (only briefly on motorway :) ) and that's with both me (17stone of hot loving! :p ) and my bro (more average weight) in the car!

I'm looking at getting one myself as the RS2000 is my current every day car but want to garage it and get a cheap runaround so I'll probably be asking for some advice from time to time :)

Anything else we should grab in the process? the interior of the car's been stripped in the Sporting, though I think the gear knob and wheel is still in there...

Cheers again

Chris

lol more replies! :D And they pretty much answer most of my q's :)

I've not seen the car myself but from what my bro was saying, there's disc brakes on the back, so I'm guessing that it's had a conversion done then..

The car is in Havant, Hants, I'll pm the fella and let him know about it :) Big issue now is trying to find a place to store the car, both my house and my bro's don't have driveways or garage so having to ask a few favours- if we can get something sorted, we'll probably strip the car completely and weigh in the rest :) Already asked my dad if I can store the engine in his shed but he won't have any of it, it's too big :p

But from the sounds of things it was an MOT failure so I don't know the quality of the parts but if they look ok, I'll see if I can sell them on :)

Cheers guys, it's muchly appeciated :) Will get an update sorted tomorrow when my bro makes the decision whether to take the whole car or not :)

Take the wheels if the tread is good on majority of tyres

Steering wheel is the same so not worth it unless in better nick.

I would grab the whole car -- while the chassis is the same (suspension excepted), all the driveline stuff is different.

Turbo it and it'll run rings round the RS (and probably turn you into a pauper in the process)!

LOL probably would with the power to weigh ratio of these cars though I'd prefer my chances in the 2k if I ran out of talent hehe- looking at throttle bodies on the 2k and possibly a few other tweaks to get it over the 150bhp it currently is (stock setup).
But definitely gonna be looking for a Cinqui Sporting in the new year, just need to get myself a job! :) :slayer:

AppleSei: cheers fella, gonna be taking the wheels as well- basically what blokey is wanting for 70 quid is the SS exhaust, wheels and I think the hubs+springs/brakes :) Tyres are all legal so no worries there :)

Btw which part of West Yorks are you? I was living up in Pudsey for 5 years until July :)

70 quid for all that is worth it, just even to sell some of it on.

Im a bit further away than pudsey, Pontefract, there are quite a few members from Yorks on here (y)

hehe I think my bro has taken a fancy to the knob itself (taken out of context that could sound pretty wrong lol)

I've sent Ycming a pm though, just waiting for a reply :)

AppleSei: aaah :) I've got some friends in Featherstone which I think is near there, also helped out with the West Yorks RSOC show at Nostell Priory in July :) Not a bad area :)

Will send more info tomorrow, as am really tired just now!

Recieved :)

Right... possible change of plan now...

Managed to secure a place to put the car for the short term, but now my bro is thinking of getting the bits needed to make it a runner again and sell it on- if what the seller of the car says is true, all it needs is new drive shaft, vacuum pipe for one of the brakes and seats. So we're going to pick the car up later today, get a mate of mine to give it a look over and if it is too good to break, either sell it on or I may buy it as my daily driver- the 2k is on 102k now and timing chain and starter motor tends to need changing about now...

So you never know, you guys might be stuck with me for a bit longer hehe

Ming: if we still break it, you've got dibs on those parts, will pm with prices once we've found out the prices :)
