Took advantage of this weekends clement weather to finally fit the proper audio equipment I’ve had lingering on my shelf this last year and a half. What with past uni commitments it sort of slipped my mind but today I finally decided to knuckle down and sort it.
Whilst cruising on the motorway, my up-rated 10cm dash speakers & head unit were nice but just didn’t cut it on the ol sound levels at speed.
The solution I decided was to make or source some custom door pods and relocate the speakers to the doors in a much larger size to give some bass and to fit component tweeters in the dash.
Fortunately searching Italian ebay snagged me some awesome bespoke cinquecento door pods for 65 euros and my god are they good for the money. Shaped pine with leatherette covering and quality factory style speaker grills and mounts.
The 17cm components I used are Infinity Kappa 65.7cs which I got for half price and they are powered by a vibe blackbox 1 underseat amp which I also sourced cheap off the bay.
Add a wiring kit and I got down to it. Hardest part was routing the power cable through the bulkhead but conveniently there was a double grommet by the base of the accelerator pedal where the bonnet release went through so I used that. The wire came out under the battery tray so had to remove the battery which also meant removing the strut brace which was a ball ache but I got the job done in the end :slayer:.
I expected the door pods to be a shoddy fit but amazingly they fitted the door contours pretty damm well and all the screw points matched up. Wired and tidied and have just finished giving it the ol blast test. Muuuuch better .
