Hi all,

My Seicento broke down, appeared to cut out after driving through several miles of very heavy/slow moving traffic and 30 odd miles of motorway driving at 70/75. Pulled into a town and went through some road works (there was a bit of a bump) after passing through the road works I drove on for about 30 seconds then the engine shutdown.

An AA mechanic took a look at it and said it was getting fuel (not much, bearly a drop cam out of the pipe) but could not restart it.

When starting, the fuel pump makes a clunk or thud sound, but doesn't do the usual whine of priming up. All the dash lights come on as normal and the engine turns but it will not start. If you leave it a bit and try again, it sound like its about to start then doesn't.

I read here about the cut off switch, and found what appears to be it right in at the back under the dash, a small black plastic switch box with a cable comming off it. It has a rubber switch on top. I pressed it as hard as I can a number of time, but no joy.

I have checked all fuses etc, and all seals etc under the hood and all is fine. Oil is at the correct level etc.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could the fuel pump be knackered? Could there be some other cause?

hmm, if it goes clunk there may be an internal fault with the pump - as you say it's supposed to give a little whirr. The pump can be got at for checking by taking off the plate under the rear seat.

Thanks, Will check that, I believe the earth for it is behind the rear bumper. Do you know where it is?

I was looking around for a Haynes type manual for Seicento. It appears there is no such thing. Have you heard anything?

Haynes haven't done a Sei manual. You're best bet is the Porter Manual. I had one for sale on eBay but someone bought it, sorry mate :(
