My cars been running fine since i go tthe headgasket done, fan kicking at 90 etc, but today was sat in trafic and the temp went up to 110 and my fan did nto kick in at all(on goes heater etc), got home checked it is defo not coming on.

I did the paperclip trick, witht he cable from the rad and fan did not start?, I have not had chance to try 12v feed to fan etc, so does it sound like a borked fan??? do i need to get a new one etc etc

thanks

yeah that's what had gone first the fuse, replaced it and my fan does not work now:<

The paperlcip trick is were the electrics connect to the rad for the temp gauge, if oyu put a paperclip in the connector(wire end) your fan shoud come on as its by passing the gauge, so you know strait away if that the fault and not the fan(well i think thats right anyway:D)

Put a teporary live in from the battery, over the wing and down to the motor. Paperclip trick and if it works its the live supply thats at fault, so check them connections.

Cheers

I will do this week and let you know

thanks

Sorry to bring back this topic from last weeks post.

Right, Grim - you have the same problem I have - sat down with a mate of mine going though the system on the car to find this dam fault with the fan.

I guess you checked the fuse inside the car under the steering wheel area. This is the wrong fuse - that one is for the heater fan in the dash.

Check the fuse "Behind" the battery on the left hand side (Why didn't I bloody check this"!?) - its well hidden and a sod to get to - might as well take the battery out. Unclip the box. And check the "BIG" (twice the size of a normal car fuse from the inside) - mine is blown and will need to get a new one from FIAT as Halfords did not stock these ones  - 30amp for the fan IIRC.,

Ahhh! - dealer job tomorrow.

Mike
