Well, I took my cinq sporting for its second MOT under my ownership today, I only realised it was due yesterday, and had a frantic hour fixing the horn which got wet recently and stopped working, luckily it was one I could take apart, nothing more than a corroded connector.

So took it this morning, and a PASS!!!!

No advice either.

I had done round about 7000 miles since the last one

Last year it also passed first time, thats the worst one when you have got the car off somebody else and you take it in, but no advice last year either.

So, a happy bunny!!

I will tell you more about this MOT centre, and believe me, its real!!

I normally give my cars to a neighbour to take in for MOT, as he is an mot inspector, rules are though, that somebody else will test it while its there, anyway I phoned my friend yesterday to see if he would take it, and he left the centre two weeks ago, to work a bit closer to home and with 4wds which he likes.

So, preferring to take the car where it had been last year, I phoned yesterday to make an appointment today.

At the mot place then, I hadnt been there before, the old fella who runs it, collects vinyl records, the reception/waiting area is like going into his living room, 3 large cream leather sofa's, up to date car mags, tins of chocolates [such as heroes] on the coffee tables, a free drinks machine that does all sorts of stuff. Heres one for you - there was even a grand piano in the corner, which he plays occasionally. A grandfather clock, and other antique clocks with proper chimes.
He has his old records playing, on a record player, tell you what it was the most laid back garage I have ever been to, and so relaxing too, the fella says that taking cars for mot can be stressful for people, so he created this chilled environment, sit back and relax, take it easy, like you would in your own living room.
Boxes and boxes of old records, proper old stuff like matt monroe, lol, we was discussing how much better vinyl was to handle and look at the covers than cds were, I used to love my vinyl back in the '80s, but I didnt tell him that my music nowadays has no moving parts.

I had to pay full whack £48 [vosa site says £53], but he let me pay him just £45, giving me a fiver back. Pass or no pass it was worth every penny!! upon leaving, I shook the old fellas hand, and told him what a great environment it was, of which he was very very pleased to hear.

Live in cheshire? go there.

id rather go to a 'normal' garage and pay £30 and save £15/18 personally... :p

I am normally dead tight when it comes to money, yeah I had a choice of going to an mot centre that does cut price mots, but they didnt see the vehicle last year / had no record of it.

Therefore, I simply went back to where the car was last done, where it was remembered from last year. A returning customer is nearly always a happy one, which is why I will go back next year, and also take my other halfs car, when she gets one.

I remember my MOT in Feb this year....what a hassle that was! I tryed booking it with a garage in West Croydon and I was 2 minutes late because of crash on the road, this guy was a real $^&£$£! he said can't take you in because your late! and the way he said it pissed me off, because made feel like 3 feet tall. I told him to stick it where the sun don't shine! Point being People from West Croydon have worst customer service skills, Well expect the bar maids :D any way took it to guy down road from me and he passed it all for £48, job done!

from experiece over the years, the mot garages who do it cheaper [the mot] usually do car repairs too, so the car gets failed and they will quote you for the job of fixing it, in the hope that you will leave it there for them to sort, so in most cases they might get their money back.

The place I went to, they just have 4 MOT ramps, MOT's is all they do, if you car needs work, then you take it away and get it sorted, or ask them for a recommendation locally.

Therefore, the only income is from the MOT test themselves. Which is why imo they arent cut price.
