I have a split tank on my Cinq Sporting and the recall is over. My main dealer has quoted £145+VAT  so I'm not impressed. I've had a look around for pattern parts and have found a cheap source of Cinq tanks....but it is not specified if it is a Sporting part or not. The main dealer insists that the Sporting model has a different tank but I suspect that I am having smoke rings blown up my jacksie.

Anyone got any knowledge here; esp tank part numbers?

Drinks are obviously on me ;)

Write or contact fiat auto uk as im sure they will help out towards getting the fuel tank replaced or pay for some of the cost as a goodwill gesture.

Also find out if and when the recall was carried out on your cinq' as it might persuade them even more.

Don't bother with dealer go straight to Fiat GB.

Thanks fiattech - tried this route myself (and my dealer) but no joy with a partial deal on this one :( One from a scrappy would do - trouble is I'm getting a bit desparate 'cos I'm doing a trackday next weekend and really could do with it sorting out pronto.

There are 2 different types of tank, one with a straight neck for the filler and one with an angled one. My sporting needed the straight neck one. I'm 99% sure that if you've got a flap over the fuel cap then you need the straight neck tank.

So - fixitagaintomorrow - the early Cinqs had an exposed filler cap. My cheap supplier (£54inc delivered) had two tanks available...one specified for 1994 and another for later models.

Does the house think that I'm pretty safe buying the later version to fit a Sporting? Is there any reason why the tank for a 900cc would not be compatible with a Sporting?

All please wade in with opinion - I'm going to buy one tomorrow one way or another.

Filler necks, but thats the only reason I can see.

Btw: Where and who this Cheap supplier? (Providing its not cloack and dagger:D)

Update on the tank drama :)

I got a tank from that link I posted.....£50 odd delivered and v. quick/efficient too.

It IS the wrong tank for a Sporting - but my local car engineer took a butchers, sucked his teeth in the 'that'll be expensive' way, and had it done double quick. The neck was in the wrong place and it isn't the same depth but any decent bodger could sort it (apparently).

It went on a track day on saturday - no fuel was wasted.

I got overtaken by the Noble and the TVR a lot but was not a disgrace and managed to overtake a 164 and an Alfasud :D

Now for the 1400/turbo/NOS ;)
