Hello,

I have a 1994 Cinquecento that I have a lot of trouble finding the right gear in - the gearstick feels very loose and doesnt move decisively through the H pattern. I have to feel around with the gearstick before I can get it to slip into the gear I want.

Any suggestions on whether this is fixable would be greatly appreciated. Looking online I see that changing the bushings can fix a gearstick with a lot of play in it, but I'm not sure if this would also fix the problem of not being able to find the right gear.

Thanks very much,

Jay

usual check places to start things off.

Clutch cable may need adjusting, gearbox oil may be a bit on the low side

Aye, you don't want a sloppy second.

The linkage at both ends needs a look. At the gearbox end the connectors can wear, and at the lever end the lever can be moving about too much in its cup.

Part of the issue is it could be a bit of wear in both.

There are plenty in scrappies so maybe a complete replacement would be an idea.

Cheers

Thanks heaps for the advice guys, yeah sloppy seconds suck!

One other thing that I should have mentioned - the gear stick when resting in neutral sits between 1st and 2nd instead of 3rd and 4th. Is this easily fixable and will this fix the sloppy changes too?

Gear selector or synchro may be on way out, a cheap fix
