Hi, all,

Currently my sister in laws seicento power sttering light is on and has no power steering, but also if you start up and then either go to reverse or put on the brake, the engine stops and the dash lights all go out except the clock, also FPS on flashes constantly.

I have taken all seats and carpets out, changed battery and earth cables that I can find, sure some were corroded but no joy, I have cleaned light connections and bulb holders and am now out of ideas.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Phil

Sounds like possible alterator or alternator belt issue. When it is not functioning the PAS does not operate and sets off the warning light.

Low battery charge causes the FPS warning to come on, so would suggest its all associated.

Sorry, before I check the alternator, this fault also occurs without engine started, as soon as brake, reverse, headlight are put on, dash power is lost.

Could this still be alternator related?

Also fully charged battery on charger and FPS still comes on.

Cheers

Possibly, if the connections are a bit iffy, but it does sound like a dash earth issue, check the connectors under the end of the dash

Again, possibly, as even a fully charged battery only gives 12.5 volts or thereabouts, the power steering needs 13.8V ish.

I stand by what I said and believe the culprit to be the alternator. As Rallycinq says the alternator needs to be spinning to generate the charge required to start the PAS, FPS etc. Car with alternator should be around 14.5v ish.

Without this as previously said it will be arround 12.5v.

Hi, just checked the alternator, no problems here?? Inline with above voltages, does anyone know where any more ground points are that are causing brakes, reverse lights and dash light problem?

I have repaired:-

1) Behind rear bumper
2) Replaced from battery to chassis
3) From chassis to Gear box / other
4) 1 more under front of bonnet on left front.

If you turn key to just before start, dash lights come on but if you depress brake, engage reverse or put on side lights / headlights, dash has no power, although starter motor will continue to turn.

If you disconnect rear lights, reverse and brake problem dissapear but side lights still activate fault.

Could this be ignition switch?

Or have I missed a ground point.

How about the ecu on right of bonnet?

Thanks all for your help

OK, take a single jump lead and put it from a shiny part of the engine, to the battery earth, and check again.

There are two earths behind the rear bumper, did you do both?

Have you recently changed a brake light bulb?

Hi, have done the jump lead test, no joy,
Havn't recently changed a bulb
& also could only see 1 earth behind bumper, followed all cables and all appear to go there, are they both visible when bumper off, or is this where I may be missing one?
thanks for your reply

does anyone know where the earth points are on a seicento?
i would like to check my own seicento year o1, 1108

the coolant temperature sensor appears to stop the fan when i insert the
coolant temperature sensor fitting.
I removed the neg. battery lead, i made a circuit with the phase tester
and the light went on,
the error code went on for coolant temperature sensor circuit 1, when the sensor is disconnected the fan turns on via the thermostat, when i reconnect the cts fitting the fan cuts out again:idea:?
