Guys got my Sei Schumacher and its excellent but it really needs to have a good service as soon as possible. It running perfect but it looks like the brake fluid has never been changed and it has a full service history.

Anyway I dont have a handbook with it other than the service book so I have a few quick questions if I may.

How much coolant does it hold so I know how much to buy basing it on a 50% mix?

What brake fluid shall I use, Dot 5 or Dot 4? Or another?

I will have a look at the belts whilst I'm doing the other bits to see if they are good or need replacing.

The car is a 2002 with 39,000 miles. If you think I need to check anything else let me know, obviously I will be changing the oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs as well as the coolant flush and bleed the brakes as well as adjust the handbrake (which works fine BTW).

I will be buying a Haynes manual at the same time for future reference information but I dont really want to buy it, open it, read it in the shop to get this detail...

Any help would be appreciated.

Do the belts, its recommend 5 years or 70k depending on your source (some say 72k etc) either way the car is beyond 5yrs old and unless service history shows a change get them done.

There isnt a haynes manual for the sei, get a cinq one, it will be suitable for the majority of jobs

Handbooks pop up on ebay from time to time, or are sometimes left in scrappie cars

May as well check the tyres put am sure you did that when looking at it

Result I already have a Cinq Haynes manual but did not want to assume it would be the same. I will use that then.

Both rear tyres need replacing as they have splits on them, fronts are fine. The last service was done by a FIAT main dealer at 30,000 so shall I take it they would NOT have changed the timing belt (silly question I know)? I was planning to have a peek at the timing belt to see if looks new, if I do not get the impression it was as new then I will replace it and the aux belt just for good measure.

Overall its a great little car and I plan to keep this for a few years so I dont mind getting it up tp spec as it usually rewards you with reliability (fingers crossed).

Thanks for the responses.

Yep it isnt the same, certainly on the fueling side of it. You may need the forum or alternative literature for things like changing the fuel pump, fuel filter etc as its completely different and a pig of a job on an MPI. Its also a bit different on the emissions and exhaust side of things as well.

But other than that the cinq haynes will cover majority of jobs

Couple of more question if you dont mind. I have given the car a good going over now and I am really pleased with it, no bumps, clunks or any really nasty things. I have 2 more things to sort and its a go.

What tyres are people using on the Abarth rims? I have 2 rear tyres with side wall splits so need to replace them ASAP, the sizes on all 4 tyres are 175/50/14 which searching looks about right but they are very expensive for a tyre. I have been quoted £80 fitted for either Goodyear or Pirelli's. Does anyone have a good source of cheap ish but good tyres and is the size fitted the correct standard size?

Secondly the rear view mirror has got the shakes and it also rattles. Has anyone seen this before and if so can it be fixed or do I need to replace it with a new one. I would prefer to repair if possible but dont want to mess unless I have too. Its irritating as the rest of the car is spot on.

Many thanks.

185/50/14 will fit and may be cheaper. Problem with those wheels is that they're only 5.5J, so going to the much cheaper 195/45/14s isn't an option (needs 6J).

Do use t'internet to shop around, see if Mr Tyres, or Top Gear have anything cheaper, but stick to decent makes.

The mirror thing is a bit odd. But you can pick up another one in a scrappy for next to nowt. AFAIK, all the Sei ones are the same.
