hi guys

well as the topic says i finally got it to go today :slayer: but theres a couple of minor problems still :bang: the main one being that it will start and run perfectly but it wont tick over and if you let it stall, it wont start for about 15 minutes but then after about 30 mins of being left it will start straight away but as i said, if you let it stall it wont start again . ive moved the earth to a more solid position and changed the plugs and leads but no joy . the other problem is the gears arnt right, you can get 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th but you cant get 5th or reverse (is there any adjustment i can do?)

overall im well chuffed the new engine is sweet as a nut (when it runs lol) and after ive ironed a few faults out it will be awesome! :D:D:D

cheers

thought of a few other bits of info to add. i noticed that there is a lot of air in the fuel pipe when you loosen it off, is this normal?.The other thing i wanted to add was when it does idle the gearbox is making a clunking noise but it goes as soon as you rev it a little any ideas??

cheers

The 5th and reverse issue is almost certainly down to a broken, incorrectly fitted, stretched or otherwise fubared reverse inhibitor cable.

The other thing, I'm not sure -- when it fails to restart, check for a spark.

hi mate

ill check the gear cables under the gaiter today. i forgot to mention there are only 2 cables that go to the gearbox, and when it was working before, you didnt press the lever down to get reverse it just went in. I still have the old coil packs and other bits so ill swap them over and try it. I swapped the spi over yesterday as i thought it was blocked and also because a component (not sure what its called but it looks like a small red blob with a black plastic arch over it and its on the left side of the spi) set on fire and melted the black plastic arch (carb cleaner set alight and melted it). If it isnt broke, i might try swapping them back over and seeing if that makes a difference?

I dunno what that bit is, pics please!

If this is a Cinq Sporting box, it should have three cables. The two which enable you to gett he gears and another which runs from near the reverse light switch right up to the gearnob. Sei Sportings don't have the inhibitor in the gearbox, but on the remote, in the cabin.

i will take a pic of it today, its just an 899 cinq sx so im not sure but there is definately only 2 cables to the gearbox

The arch thing in the top of the TB, is the air temp sensor. If thats burnt, then thats at least one of your problems.

If you managed to set fire to the top of the TB, your timing is out. Could be as simple as plug leads on the wrong plugs.

899 is two cable box.

hi mate

i swapped the tb for the old one off my other engine and it runs perfectly. the engine is not down on power or misfiring at all it just refuses to start for ages then all of a sudden it will start again. i do think however it could be a hot start problem as ive just been out tonight and its been stood all day and it fired straight up and i stopped it after about a minute and tried it again and it started straight up again

hi all

quick update for today, ive changed the tb back over to the one with the melted sensor and it runs and starts a bit better  ive found that if you hold the accelerator down fully, let the pump prime and the injector light go off, after roughly 4 turns of the key it will start and tick over nicely (y). I have sorted the gears out as well, the gearstick was bent a bit and the side to side mechanism was too tight on the gearbox :D. finally ive made my first couple of mods...... a set of sporting clocks (big thanks go to custard for the guide on wiring the rev counter in :worship:), a sporting steering wheel and a boot lock that actually works !!!! :slayer:. Im now wondering if the fuel pump has pulled some debris up from the tank and is spoiling the fueling?

cheers

hi guys

after all the sadness of yesterday ive got something positive to add.The car is now near enough starting perfectly and ticking over, and the light problem i had (pressing the brakes was causing the sidelights to come on). It turned out to be an incorrect bulb in one of the brake light holder (single filament instead of twin) and lastly ive got the rev counter working correctly as it was working intermittantly down to a bad connection.

cheers
