hi all

ive been getting quotes all day from various scrappies for a new engine. They have varied somewhat but the general price seems to be around 150 quid (inc. VAT and delivery). the one i was most interested in was a engine from a 1995 cinq which had covered only 41k and was recently serviced before it was scrapped. the engine will come with all the ancillaries and delivered by thursday and all for 130 quid. does anyone know if i go for this one will i have to strip it down to fit it? and does the price seem reasonable?

cheers

thanks fingers

the problem i have is ive rung round all my local scrappies and none of them seem to have any 899s and the engine i described is in stockton i think. the car is parked outside my house atm, is it safe to take the rest of the engine and gearbox out now and leave it where it is or do i need it off the ground until the new motor is in?

Depends very much on the local police and your neighbours!

No reason why you shouldn't drop the engine and box out now, if you have the time: it'll make sticking the new one in quicker, and that way you can put the car back on it's wheels in the meantime.

A dolly -- old pallet with supermarket trolley wheels on it -- makes life much easier.

cheers mate i was a bit concerned the wheels might collapse (doing this completely blind atm) it shouldnt be too bad, half the engine is it the boot so ive got plenty of room under the bonnet. do you know if there is a step by step guide i can read anwhere? i have only seen one for the sporting swap?

cheers

hi all

im stuck at the moment, ive got the drive shaft out of the gearbox but i cant get it out of the hub! please help!!!

Undo the 2 suspension bolts which bolts the shock to the hub, then u will get alot of space to wiggle it out..

Remeber the sei 899 shares the same engine :), they will be newer and hopefully last for longer!!

hi ming

If you can't get it out the hub then how about you just take the hub off the suspension.. and keep the hub and driveshaft as one?

:eek::eek::eek::eek: now thats expensive you could have had my old one for 30 quid(y)

few extra cc on my lump ;)

hi hellcat

i did try to remove the hubnut but as always some t**t has ruined the thread on it so i think i may have to just pull them out of the way whilst i take the engine and box out then cable tie them to something till i get the other engine in

i see why you spent more but how much would you have saved using my old head and sorting it out??? (just out of curiousity)

cheers

hi rallycinq

i took the 2 bolts out of the suspension strut then when that didnt work i took the wishbone bolt out and it came out of the gearbox very easily but its solid in the hub, i wonder if its knacked?
