Hi everyone, my seicento sporting speedo just suddenly stopped working on my way to work this morning :O( It was working perfectly fine on my way to work, i noticed it stopped working when i stopped to wait for a ford transit van to turn right, i pulled away from standstill and it didnt budge which i found very alarming, also last night the rev counter light didnt work and still doesnt work just out of the blue but the lights on the dash, interior light etc all still work fine, just the rev backlight is out, so strange!? When the car is running i have no warning or unusual lights on the display, i have also noticed this afternoon that the injector light doesnt show when i put the ignition to mar, it usually always does then goes off then i start her up? Could you guys help to shed some light on the matter as im supposed to be selling the car this weekend, talk about bad timing!!! Please help me in anyway you can, i cant tell you how much i would appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Tom.

Check the gearbox, just above the diff. If you have a cable coming out heading for the bulkhead, its a cable speedo and the electric problems are a seperate issue.

If there is an electronic sender unit, then its possible your alternator is overcharging.

Check the output, you are looking for around 13.8V.

how easy is it to fix a knakered speedo cable?

As said above depends if a cable driven speedo cable or an electronic driven one.

A cable one is potentially just a new cable so a straight swap, an electronic one well it may not be as straight forward to diagnose the problem.

Either way the instrument cluster has to come off

Hi, thanks for the replies, it is definitely a speedo cable, as its an s reg 98 and i checked last night by taking off the instrument cover thing and the speedo cable didnt spin as i was driving up and down my street testing it, the cable has snapped at the engine bay end. My question now is, can i just pull out the old one from within the outer core and replace with the new one piece cable that i have ordered or do i have to take the wheel off etc and take off the whole thing to replace it? I hope it is the former......thanks in advance, tom.

If you can get all the bits of the inner cable out then it may be possible to put a new inner in. However, if the iner has failed by splitting it can cause damage to the outer cable meaning that a new inner will fail quickly again.

Do the job properly.
