Hi all, I'm just about to get on with my 899 - 1242 conversion and was wondering what were peoples opinions on clutches.
The spec will be GSR head, 75 cam, tricker tb, K+N filter, chipped ECU, Supersprint m/fold. Do I need to as far as an OMP or EBC kit, or would a good quality standard kit be ok? The car will be used a daily, with maybe a bit of Pug/Corsa/Scooby chasing here and there!
Any opinion's or recomendation's would be gratefully recived.

For road use make sure whatever you use is sprung. A non sprung one is a pain except for out and out competition use. Even the rally car has a sprung one.

Thats pretty much similar to what my old cinq was, and that had a standard fiat clutch which coped fine...

The stock clutch should be OK. The uprated ones will cope with any NA output (but not quite with high boost turbo torque), next step up is the 1.4 Panda 100bhp/Stilo 1.4 16v clutch and flywheel, which is a significantly more expensive option.

Next step up is a 1242 16v clutch and flywheel. they are prob far easier to locate in a scrap yard

Interesting. I thought all clutches were the same until the 1.4.

Different flywheel?

1.1/1.2 8v Fire are 180mm
1242 16v Superfire are 190mm
1368cc Superfire are 200mm

Would one clutch last longer than other comparing the 3 above??

assuming is driven by the same driver on the same caR???

Thrust bearing would probably go first, so, if the engine doesn't make the torque to cause the stock clutch slip, there's not much point.

So is the uprated clutch heavier ??? Wouldn't that causes more stress on the clutch cable ? As is designed for the smaller, lighter clutch ??

They're heavier, pedal wise, but not overly so. IMHO cable failure is the symptom of a knackered clutch, it doesn't happen if the clutch is OK.

I have probably the best advice

you could try searching past threads that have covered this soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo may times
