Hello all, yesterday I was driving my Cinq nice and slow and all of a sudden rear offside corner of the car dropped to the floor! When I jacked it up later it turned out that the spring has snapped because of rust:cry: the fun part is that I got the springs just over one year ago! The remaining springs are just as rotten as the snapped one. SO DON’T BUY P.I. LOWERING SPRINGS!!! I had no idea they were crap?! I got some Apex ones coming tomorrow, hopefully they will last a bit longer.

What sort of springs/suspension variations do other Cinq/Sei users have?

The springs were brand new when I fitted them! They cost me £60.00. I almost never have any passengers in the back. Also Cinqs are quite light cars so I can’t blame anybody but the manufacturer. Just think how fast those springs must snap on heavy cars:D

If they rust, they snap, end of story. The rust creates stress raisers (and spring steels rust very quickly).

It is possible that the coating was sub standard or that the spring was not properly tempered.

Your duty is not to complain here, but to contact the manufacturers: you never know, you might even get some money back.

That’s mainly the reason I’m upset, because the ones I got had 12 months guarantee and just three months after it expired they snapped:bang:

PS. I did contact the manufacturer and got no responce!

hmm its a tricky one with self fitting.
manufacturer could use this as a get out.
however we need to look at the sale of goods act here.
this states goods should last a reasonable length of time (im paraphrasing)
now the question is whether 12 months form a £60 set of springs is reasonable?

Sale of goods act was ammended so that goods have to be 'acceptable quality'. Failing after 15 months is not acceptable, I would have thought, but it would cost more than £60 in court to argue the point.

So I guess that you put this down to experience, however, when was your last MOT done?

Cheers

D

MOT was last done in September, the car passed. According to the sale invoice details the product is guaranteed for 12months from sale date. I bought them from an agent, not direct, however did notify P.I. of the faulty product.
When I called Demon Tweeks for some lowering spring quotes they said that many unsatisfied users complain about P.I. so they don't distribute them at all.

PS Contacted P.I. direct via e-mail.

Changed the rear springs yesterday. Apex are a completely different construction spring and thicker, ride is ok. I can still hear some knocking when going over uneven road surface/holes. I think the reason for that are the bushes(there is some play there) because the shocks are quite new. The entire rear lower suspension arms look a bit rusty so will have to change the lot I think. This guy down the street from work brakes Fiats so will check if he got a low mileage Sei in;)
