... has a couple of niggling little issues that i need to get sorted.

I've owned a Cinq before, but that was 4 years ago when i first joined this forum, now i'm back in Cinq ownership!! I'm led to believe that it's a Brickfoot built 1242? Brickfoot, can you shed some light on that please matey?

Anyhoo...

First off, she idles a tad too high, even when warm, I came to the conclusion that this might be due to the fact one of the bolts was missing (snapped) from the air intake (technical name i have no clue - plastic bit) and an air leak there would cause the idle to be a tad high, so i've stuck a silicone seal around it... I'll find out the outcome of that in the morning when its set and isn't raining, snowing or sleeting!

Secondly, one that i'm totally unsure about, i occasionally get flat spots in no specific place in the rev range, but to the point occasionally, that it judders and feels like its going to cut out? These are only brief spells, and usually resume normal service soon after the spluttering fit.

As far as I can think, so far, they're the only issues i've come across.

Tomorrow, weather allowing, i'll be stripping and checking everything out in a bit more detail, make sure everything is all Ok!

It's nice to be back in Cinq ownership! :D

Any help or advice would be much appreciated,

Cheers,

Oggy

Cheers for that, however, you'll have to excuse my ignorance, where exactly would i be looking?

I'm not the most mechanically minded, i'm thoroughly capable of spinning spanners when i know what i have to do, and how to do it, but as yet i don't have a Haynes manual

I presume its a vacuum pipe, and i'll just be checking its all in one piece and connected properly?

From TB to the map sensor, a pipe, plastic, with rubber ends. The ends can split, the pipe can split, the pipe can fill with condensation. The map sensor is mounted on a metal disc bolted to the top bolt of the ECU.

Cheers

Thanks for that, but i've just been and checked, and it's all good, clean and clear, with no leaks? :shakehead:

Any other suggestions?

the high idle sounds like an air leak. it wont be the air intake as that is on the wrong side of the throttle butterfly. check all the bolts are on tight, hoses etc are all connected. how high does it idle?

second problem could be lots of things. when was it last serviced?

Right, had a play around, and discovered two metal hose nipples sticking out from the back of the TB, when i cover the right hand one with my finger, the idle drops to the level it should be.

What is the purpose of those two nipples? Can i block it off with a bit of tubing with a screw in the end?

With regards to servicing, i'm not sure, when finances allow i'll be doing a full service on it myself.

block that pipe off, it'll be fine - prolly just the hot / cold selector thing from the origonal airbox that i guess isnt there anymore.

may sort out the other problem too

The pipe with nail worked on sorting the idle out, but i'm still suffering from occasional spluttering at low revs, feels like its being choked temporarily.

I'll get onto checking and cleaning the plugs and leads tomorrow see if that solves it.

However, i now have a new problem...

The speedo is drunk.
Basically it won't hold a steady reading for more than a few seconds at a time, all since i went over a rather large bump in the road a little too fast (it just jumped out at me!)

Any suggestions as to what i've knocked loose or broken please?

Many thanks once again.
