will the 6 speed internals fit into my 5 speed sporting casing?
i have found 6 speed internals from a 3000mile punto sporting, and the casing is smashed

i love novas but its time for a change

Should do..IIRC its the same gearbag type.

I think thats a hydraulic clutch innit?

i have been told by the breakers that it is the same box? so.... if the box is longer will the sei engine bay need to be modded to house the 6 speed box?

i love novas but its time for a change

Nah... the end of the box sticks out into the wheel arch a bit - only rubs on standard wheels very slightly, which can be cured with 15mm spacers.
It is the same box - but obviously it has to be slightly longer to house the 6th gear!

It's definatly not a custard now - 'cos I got a red one!!!

What part of the case is smashed? Is it part of the main body or the end "cap"? The end caps I could get hold of for you I reckon - if however it is the main bit then you're a bit buggerd.
Just noticed - Punto Sporting? - did they make the Sporting with a 6 speed box??? I didn't think they did and I know the 'boxes I've had ain't been from a Sporting...? *hhmmmmmm*

i was sure the punto sporting aka the 75 ran a 6-speed.... and isnt the whole gearbox a staight swap for the cinq one?

that is wat i have been told anyway when i enquired about a 1.2 6-speed conversion!

but then again, as with most things, i could b wrong :p

6 speeders from the 55 are like rocking horse poo, from the mk2 are more common but I'm not sure about being just a straight swap, I haven't tried it.

What you should know as well is that on standard gearing and 13" wheels, the mk1 box gives you a top speed of 93mph at 6000 revs in 6th. Mk2 box is about 96mph.

Pete - not true! I had well over an indicated 100 with the 6 speed box on low profile standard wheels-13". The engine runs out of power to pull the gearing with over 1000 revs left from what I can remember aswell. It does take a while to get there mind.
Matt

*edit* I can get hold of the 6 speed boxes that drop straight in, the rare as rocking horse poo ones - hehehe - expensive tho, esp if they are from Fiat. :p

If you calculate it all out, the mk1 6 speeder does give a real 93mph at 6k revs. This might show over 100 on a standard speedo.

Fing is, what did you use for a speedo drive pinion? The cinq speedo is supposed to work off a much higher ratio diff than what's in the 6 speeder. There could well be a mismatch in speedo gearing.

Fordy - The 6 speed all the way! - so much more fun if you don't mind changing gear and the lower top speed! You can spin the wheels in 2nd - hahaha

Pete - huh??? When I have a 6 speed back in a car I will borrow my Dad's Road Angel (tells you your speed according to GPS!) and find out just how innacurate the speedo really is...

I don't want to start a fight, but if this is true:
http://www.clubfiatpunto.com/mk1.htm
then 93mph is your top speed at 6000 revs in 6th on 165/55 r 13 tyres according to
http://www.race-technology.com/WebPage2/Other/Utilities/GearCalculations/GearCalculation.html
Mk2 Punto box is about 5% higher gearing IIRC, which still makes for daft revs at motorway speeds.

I'll quite happily issue a retraction and public apology if this isn't true, but until proven I feel it necessary to post my findings.

Issue with speedo gearing: it's driven off the diff spur wheel, which has more teeth on the 6 speeder than the 5 so unless the pinion has the correct number of teeth to correct this for cinq use then the reading might be meaningless.
