Can anyone advise me on the best engine to fit into my Cinquecento Sporting, also does anybody know of a good garage in west yorkshire that would be able to carry the work out

Thanks in advance

Mr Kippa:D

Best for what. Economy?, performance? noise?

Any engine can be fitted to any car, no exceptions. Whether it is road legal or even sensible is open to interpretation.

Dodge Viper V10 in the boot? Expensive, but possible even though the rear wheels would be a foot further back than they currently are.

Formula 1 V10, really neat and easy, but at half a million quid at a time, not cheap.

Sorry, should have explained more I would like the best for performance and tuning potental, but also something that drops pretty much straight in without too much trouble

Punto 60 1242cc (SPI).

Its a bolt for bolt swap (Ive just installed one last wk).

Tuning is fairly limited. Im looking into eventually lightening parts (GSR do valvetrains and flywheels) and 3 deg valve seats. The Punto 75 cam is a straight swap and thats effectively a fast road profile cam.

Remaps are a definate but expensive possibility and stuff like exhausts and air filters are easy to find.

It cant be bored out much though. but the Cinq Trofeo Kit car (Factory spec rally car) pushed 100BHp from a N\A 1108cc unit.

So there definately is hope. Rallycinq runs a rally prepped Cinq, so could advise of tuning that Id say!

95 Cinq Sporting - Rattly GrpN Catback Exhaust, Buckets and 3pt Harnesses,Sexy VW styleé dials (that look great, but dont work!! :)D)), 10" Sub and 6x9's, ETech Wing. Lots of Dirt!
1242cc Engine in car, not starting, boot delock soon, K+N still in garage!

Nope, the 75 and Sporting units are 8v and 16v MPi, so that means new wiring loom and ECU.

According to Peter at GSR who did a 16v convo, its not worth it as its actually LESS tuneable than the 8v unit (SPi).

Easiest option and best for bits is the Punto 60!

so I take it the punto 60 (60 bhp ??? )isn't mutch more powerfull that the cinq sporting but has more torque (faster pick up ect)and is more tuneable than the cinq sporting. So if I find a punto 60 engine (any idear how much ?) as someone with some mechanical know how,it should be fairly painless

I'm not sure about the 'more tuneable' bit. I still have concerns about the 1242 at high revs. I have a 'chooned' 1108, with a billet cam, bigger throttle body, balanced, ported, vernier, etc etc.

Don't know waht power it gives, as its still sitting on the garage floor waiting for a car to be made ready for it.

how much did that all cost to do? sounds awesome.

Well, I put the engine cost in my last post.

I think realistically, 80BHp wouldnt be too unrealistic with this:

Remap, Induction and Exhaust mods, Camshaft, Porting and Polishing of heads and gasflowing of throttle body.

David,

Would be interested to hear your concerns about high revs on a 1242. The Punto ecu cuts a 60 off at 6500 revs, but mine will pull 7k with the 1108 ecu (only by accident, I don't do it for fun). Seriously considering an aftermarket rev limiter for the turbo, especially as it's more stressed than a standard one.

Ta,

Pete.

Um... me too. I'm considering tuning the nuts off a 1242 and keeping it n/a (due to poxy insurance!) And one plan was lightened valvetrain for higher revs...??

It's definatly not a custard now - 'cos I got a red one!!!

Its just another example of the weird way I think. If a manufacturer has to put a crank damper on, then there must be some serious harmonics with that crank. They don't fit the damper to the 1108, so my thinking goes that it is inherantly more balanced.

Therefore, when chooned should be able to stand more revs before putting a leg out of bed.

Erm, What size Throttle body yu running? whats it off? Would it fit to the std inlet system easily?

Im quite fancying larger valves, but dunno how I would do that and keep the engine non-interference (which Id do due to my hamfisted mechanics!!)

I have a punto 60 Throttle body and I am going to get the manifold matched to the head.

But the whole lot is still sitting on the workshop floor.

The intention is to get the car over to a different workshop to get the new subframe fitted, and at the same time get the engine in.

That is the intention, it means I get a Manta 400 to look after while mine is away, but I will wait till it actually happens.
