Help.I can't get the drums off my Sei sporting,I've read other threads suggesting they are held on with bolts, but I can't see any.I tried pullling one off with a puller from halfords, but it wouldn't budge!I need to overhaul the r.brakes as the braking is poor, but improves when you take up a bit of slack with the handbrake.Does this sound like the cable needs adjusting,or worn shoes? thanks for any suggestions

A decent copper, or some form of other soft faced, hammer and whack 3 bells out of it, I'd not use a normal hard faced hammer, I've see drums crack in half with that kind of abuse.

Gently taping works if the drums have been well maintained, both of my 'centos required serious effort in hammer wielding to remove them.

mine have always slipped off fine :)

a puller that has a cental crew should work fine, if you secure it on the lip of the drum. If thats what your using and it didn't shift it, something is very wrong lol.

The only things that hold it in place are the wheel, the wheel bolts, a cecuring screw and bolt (11mm head?) and the shoes when the handbrake is on.

done mine today, get a flat head screw driver, put it in the gap, then hammer it, then repeat around it, then it will come out easily.

That's what i done and it worked, but it might not be the 'correct' way :D

And put the lower spring on the rear brake shoe is the hardest thing by far !!

Good Luck!!!

The puller I used bolted on two of the wheel bolt holes, and then screwed down onto the hub nut.I gave it as much stick as I dared! There are no other securing bolts visible on the drum, maybe they've been left off by someone?I will check the other side .Thanks for input.

This will sound silly, but you actually want to hit the drum towards the backplate. Big beating stick and smack it in the way. You can get plenty leaverage to give it a good smack. The shock bounces the drum off.

If you insist on using your puller, undo the hub nut first, there is nothing wrong with taking the drum and hub off together.

Cheers

Thanks Kritip, youv,e just pointed out the obvious mistake . I would have to screw into the threaded holes in the drum ,not the wheel bolts!Doh,thats the beauty of this forum. Thanks again for the tips everyone.

I would advise against taking the drum and hub off together (by undoing the big hub nut before pulling the drum off). I tried this and the bearings came apart because the back bearing was stuck on the axle. I had a right old time putting it all back together again (of course all the bits of grit and dust you touch stick very nicely to the grease don't they?). VERY IMPORTANT - (as advised in previous posts) don't forget to undo the two small nuts holding the drum to the hub before pulling at the drum otherwise you will get nowhere.
