The tappets are non-adjustable!

Two solutions have been offered recently by rallycinq and richcinq. Use the search engine!

Excuse me contradicting the great 'fingers99', but the tappets may be adjustable. Although hydraulic, some of the tappets have adjuster screws for setting the preload. If the OP's mechanic has adjusted them like traditional tappets, then they will rattle. If the seals are fubared, then they wil rattle no matter how much they are adjusted.

Cheers

No greatness here, O Master!:worship: So, is it early ones adjustable (for preload), later ones not?

But I really should leave pushrod engines to you.............

Have you ever figured out why they did it (hydraulic lifters and adjusters)? Sounds to me like bankers who always need belts and laces to hold their trousers.

Have the comma and full stop buttons been stolen from your keyboard?

If you can find a Panda or similar shaft then go for it. It makes the tappets completely manual.

If you can't, you can get individual hydraulic tappets from Fiat at about £15 each, so thats quite an expensive exercise if you do the lot.

It would be worthwhile popping the top off and finding how many dodgy ones you have.

However, what oil are you using, and when was it last changed?

Cheers

Yeah they got stolen not a good area to live in lol, not sure when the oil was done or wot grade but looks pretty clean, gonna do an oil change soon tho but im gona flush with diesel since that works better than flush from a tin lol, how would i go about checkin to see witch one's are knackered? cheers

I spy with my little eye...........a comma.

With the engine running put a long thin screwdriver point on the rocker box with the other, blunt, end to your ear, and listen at points along the box to hear where the noise is coming from.

Once you've got an idea, whip the box off and see how loose those ones are.

Time to buy the book.

Yes, the oil filled tappets are in the rocker arms, and if you have adjustable ones, the adjuster is above the pushrod at the other side of the rocker.

Rule of 9 or 5, depending on preference, and adjust the preload as per the manual.
