I'm wondering what the highest revs a standard 1108 block
can be taken to regularly without becoming unreliable as i
think 6000rpm is not high enough to make decent power.
Insurance costs rule out slotting in a 1.2 engine

probably 7000 is fine if you adjusting the limit, but i don't think you'll find much power up there on a standard engine.

Yeah just the bottom end and valve train standard
is the limiter a change in the map which is over Written
when its remapped?

i dont want to stay on redline all day just the odd

Through the gears it'll probably rev to around 7,000, but you're so far past peak torque that there's nothing to be gained.

The only way of making real power at that kind of engine speed is to put in a lumpier cam and port the head. You might need a close ratio or even a 6 speed box. You'll have to declare all mods to your insurance. You'll loose out on reliability and may have trouble passing emissions.

Fit a 1.2.
 
cool so without the balancing you would not go to 7k?
what duration is the cam to be peaking that high

mine goes to 7200rpm (i thought this was standard) and all ive balanced is me flywheel as i lightened it.

should be going abit higher soon:devil::devil: but the bottom end will all be balanced
 
i've got a punto 75 cam in at the moment plus TB and air filter
so is the limiter set to 7200 as standard then?
 
being able to get those extra mph out of each gear makes
a differance my old rover would do 70 in 2nd and 95 in 3rd
wich is useful
 
So what you want is drivabilty which has bugger all to do with how many revs it will pull.

I have an NA 1108 quite modified i admit but i never find the need to go over 5K the thing is to tune it to fit your needs

Rallycinq uses his car for autotesting so it is tuned to meet his needs.

I like power without the revs ie torque so mine has good torque low down which gives drivability on the road (I also use a 268 cam)

Brooky's car has just one throttle position and even if it reved to 15k it still wouldn't be enough:p
 
and then sit down with a cup of tea (and think in your case it may even take a biscuit as well) and then think how often you could actually drive and use the car to anywhere near it's potential on the public road.

I don't want to sound old as there are others better placed than me but if you really want a car like this either buy another car to use every day on the road or grow up

Have you tried getting quotes for a 1.2 conversion from modified car specialists? My tuned Sei sporting, Cinq sporting 1.2 8v & a Cinq 1.2 low boost were all within 10% of each other to insure, the difference between them was the security, replacement costs of the cosmetics and the car values.

On the revs thing, to get power up high is one thing but it will be easy to make the car very hard to drive low down. To develop a high revving small N/A engine with reasonable low end response is possible but it'll cost a lot of money & by the time you'll have finished I'd wager that a turbo or a 1.2 8v conversion would have been more economic until insurance costs on these cars are fairly low.
