I've just bought a sat nav to go with my new Seicento (1998), I took the lighter out of it's socket for the first time since buying the car and it looks like it's all rusted... both the socket and the lighter. I plugged the sat nav in and it wouldn't charge.

How big of a job is it to get this replaced, would it be something I could do myself.

Check the fuses, including the maxi fuses in the engine bay, by the battery. Although it's not a difficult job, new cigarette lighters cost around £40! So, well worth a visit to the scrappy!

Also could just be that the rust is stopping it making a contact. While you have the fuse out to check it clean the contacts inside the lighter socket with a bit of emmery cloth and then try it again before replacing it.
