Been working on my girlfriends car (Seicento 1.1 spoting 2000 model) over the weekend as it seems to not want to start. I had to change the radiator as well, due to the old one being miging and rotten, plus it had been loosing water over the last month or so.

Did that fine and thought while the bumper was off I'd change the oil and give it a once over to try and see why it doesnt want to go. Took the sump plug out and was greeted by a fountain of radiator water and oil. So baically the head has lifted and from what I gather its siezed up some where inside the block. I took a spark plug out (which are only 3 months old) and it was all rusty and covered inwater, confirming my worries that it was seized.

My questiion is, would it be cheaper to buy a new engine and fit that than try to get a garage to reserect the current one, as it could be numerous things that are gummed up or broken. Any ideas or advice would be welcome. Cheers, Al

Thanks for that Ill have a look.

Just a sudden thought what other engines would fit into the Seicento? Any possability of a turbo conversion what else would you have to change? Drive shafts running gear etc?? Whats this 1242 engine I see on here going around? any good? one of the best? Cheers

Can you turn the engine by hand? it may just be the head gasket has failed,
take the head off and have a look before writing the engine off this should be less than £300 fix from a garage or a lot less than £100 if you do it yourself.

Even if it is NFG then replacement engines are not that expensive you can swop like for like or upgrade to a 1242 for the additional cost of a 10mm exhaust spacer but if you are paying to get this done then it will still cost.

Forget a Turbo conversion unless you have a bit of cash to throw at it they are not cheap to built and set up as there is no off the shelf direct swop so it is a custom build

Todays update is... that I have got it working but only after getting a load of water out of one of a bore and filling it up with oil. The heads only gone on the on the one piston, the one next to the cam belt, didnt put any more water in the system as its best left as it is, not siezed lol. Prob going to get a garage to replace the head gasket. whats the reckon on £300 for that? or am I looking at a bit more?

The price for doing work on the car depends very much on where you are in the country and then on what sort of garage you choose to do the work.

A main dealer chromy showroom establishment in the middle of Londinium, and your looking at over £100 per hour.

A single man operation in the countryside, £30 per hour.

Cheers
