Hey guys got a 899CC cinq. suspected head gasket failure. Was considering engine swap to 1.2 punto engine ... what do i need ? and how hard is it ? ps it will be going to a mechanic to get done :)

But i mean new wiring ? brakes? engine mount mods?

Thanks

because more power in an 899 would be dangerous, it needs to sit lower and it needs an anti roll bar.

what do you call a fair price? I'd expect around £250 to fit a punto60 engine in a sporting and that is an 'easy' swap.

oo, driveshafts too you'd need them.

hmm .... even at those prices, u stated,

he would need to change:

Gearbox
Drive shaft
Wiring loom + ECU
Engine
Exhaust
Suspension

Then u might as well, change the headgasket, cam belt, alternator belt since u got the engine out.

Am sure it would be pretty costly to get that changed by someone else.

to get all the parts you need, you're going need to buy a sporting - so you may as well fit the punto60 engine to the sporting unless there is something special about your 899

Agree with arc, to much fuss for a 899, buy a sporting and save time, money and hastle.

Just been told 100 to fit the engine

Aye, but what about everything else? Or does that cover everything including fitting new suspension and sorting the loom out, knocking up the exhaust spacer?

100 is cheap for a normal engine change though....very cheap.

Thats just the engine swap not everything else
i can do brakes and suspension myself i think
what would i need to do to suspension ?

Fit an ARB and new lower springs for a start - and new dampers too if the old ones are worn at all IMO. The 899 brakes are the same as the standard Sporting brakes AFAIK. If the guy is just gonna swap the engine/box over then you'll have to do the wiring loom and fit the driveshafts yourself as they're different between the 899 and Sporting.

If you have no knowledge as you said earlier, I'm not exactly sure if doing this sort of work is a good idea for you to cut your teeth on.

Just to clarify

You cannot put a 1242 or even an 1108 straight onto the 899 gearbox. It needs the complete transmission from a Sporting, including shafts, gearlinkage and box.

Your existing ECU can be made to work, but requires rewiring and repositioning.

The exhaust system is completely different, the OHC exhaust comes from the front of the engine, the OHV from the rear.

Cheers
