Bought a cheap Cinq for my wife to learn to drive on but it has a gearbox problem, it has no 1st and 2nd gear, 3rd & 4th are where they should be, i can get 5th and reverse no problem. 3rd & 4th are over to the far left where you`d expext the others to be and 5th is where 3rd should be..........Any help appreciated. I have adjusted the clutch as per the haynes but am struggling with the problem........Martin

take the gear selector cable off and the plate under it off aswell. theres some three or four slidy plate things...one of these will need realigning(y)

Crap explination but thats what happened with mine and thats how i sorted it.....if you do a search there are some pictures of the problem

I did a search earlier and did not come across what you are describing, are we talking at the engine end or at the gear lever end? Many thanks for your help..........Martin

Is that inside the gearbox (page 5), do i need to get inside it to sort the problem? or is it something to do with the cables?..........Martin

The cables join ball joints and 2 levers.

These levers move selectors inside the top of the box. ( picture 2)

These shift the 3 arms inside the box. (picture 3)

To remove that part is VERY easy. A few bolts and its off, after removing the clutch cable.

You may need to remove it, realigned the selectors.

How can these have got out of alignment without the box being disturbed? When i remove the top what do i need to do with them, put all the grooves in a line? Sorry for all the questions..........Martin

Before removing the top (its not a lady, it won't change its mind once the top is off) get someone to operate the lever in the car while you watch the levers on the selector.

One cable deals with the front and back movement, the other with the side to side. You need to see the side to side cable move completely from one side to the other. If it only goes half way, pop the cable end off and see if the lever will go the extra distance. If so its a cable alignment fault, if not its a slector fault.

Cheers
