Is a 1242cc's inlet manifold different to a 1108cc's. My 1108's inlet manifold will not fit the 1242cc engine now in my car!;)

According to the HG Set I got (For a 94 Punto 60), the inlet manifolds are the same, look:

Am I correct in thinking that all of them are different, so is only up to a certain age? My engine's
in the car, and I can get to the nuts for the inlet plenum, hopefully!

Also, anyone know if the barbed connectors in the throttle body (htat the fuel lines etc are connected to) are screwed in or pressed in, or is it cast like that. My new Punto 60 TB has had some of these hacked off by the missing link that removed it from the engine! I cant be arsed buying another TB. I just hope fittings can be replaced!

no such thing as a 94 60 engine since the 1242 spi replaced the 1108 spi around 97ish in punto.
i seem too remember the 1242 mpi engine used a different manifold gasget, perhaps youve got a 75 motor there?

Nope. Cant be a 75 motor. Ive had it apart- see my other post, "Engines dont give good Head."

Its got one camshaft and 8 valves, and yes I checked them, as I removed them, cleaned them and replaced them!!:)

I thought the 60 was available from 1994. And IIRC, the 55 is stil available (A 1108cc SPi Engine.)

Yeah, it was. In 1997, the Sporting became a 1242 16v from a 1598cc engine, and the 55 (1108cc) was dropped in 1999 when the Mark 2 started being produced!

75 was a 1242 8v MPI - is the stud pattern wrong on the head, Tom?

If so, it could be an MPI job. The 1242 '60' and 1108 heads are the same, you could swap it over if needs be - will be a shame after the valve job mind.

If you do swap and it is a 75 engine, try to put the 75 cam in the 1108 head, it's a little hotter and good for more power.

Try to find the engine code number, it's dot stamped on the block, on the flat horizontal face above the water pump housing. Something like '176B4000' - then compare in Haynes or parts CD.

Pete.

Yeah, head stud pattern is wrong- studs are 10 -15mm higher than inlet manifold is.

If valves in the head are OK, then I could valve job my 1108cc head, then reinstall that. Not that I really want to...
Cant I slap on a 75 input manifold and try and get away with that?

The Confusing thing is that the HG fitted fine- as did all of the other gaskets!

You can put a 75 inlet manifold on, but it won't match your injection system. Its a multi point.

I came across the reverse of this problem when I wanted to multi point my 1108 as per the factory cars. I stupidly thought Fiat would just rake through the parts bin, but no, its a bespoke item.

Ah cheers D. Take its a swap the old head over job. I better get cleaning then!!

Pete - I cant see the n-jin code anywhere, not even on my old unit!

Ok, 75 Heads off, valves have been swapped and done valve job on 1108cc head using MPi head valves (Same valves, I checked thoroughly!!)

My Valve job on this head is better than on the 75's:D
75 cam is waiting to go in, and then I'll stick the head on (20 mins tomorrow)

Seen as the HG hasnt been used under any temperature, would it be OK to reuse the one I got as part of the Headset and installed on the 75 head prior to removing it?

you usually get the head aswell, its just bad luck that arseofbox got a punto 75 engine instead of a punto 60 so the inlet manifold won't fit the punto 75 head, at least i think thats whats going on in this thread, correct me if i'm wrong, lol

Yep. Exactly Dave. Its just fortunate that a 55 head (1108cc) fits a 60/75 (1242cc) Block!!:D

Mic, I got a full engine, on the Phone I said "a Punto 60 1242cc SPi Engine" and the guy understood, receipt says "Punto 1242cc Engine", Block has 1.2 Cast into it. So, yes its a 1242cc Engine, but with an MPi, not an SPi head. Fortunately it has a hotter cam, so guess whats now in my head :D And the valves in the 75 head came up much cleaner than the valves in the 55 head, so theyre now well seated in that head. All Manifolds fit, so its going back together!

Tom,

We all know your taking your time with this engine buidling stuff but we hope it doesn't end up like this

**** happens!

Hmm. I hope not too...

But thats a race engine!
Mine'll only be safe till itr hitss the rev limiter, and I havent done that yet, I really hate the sound above 5500rpm! I just cant bear to take the poor thing any higher!!:D

Pete, I found the engine code...didnt realise yu meant the flat face facing upwards, next to the water pump. Its a 176A8.000, M3 1.2 MPi:D

The smoother reving wouldn't be anything to do with the sodding great crank balancer on the pulley end?

I am of the school of thought that thinks if it needs one of those it can't be to clever internally
