So i've got my shell home for the re-shell project to start.. (I'll get some pics soon and start a proper thread!!)

First things first, this car has a huge puddle in the bottom and is leaking from multiple places. But first one i wanna sort out is the roof.. Had the roof off today to check seals and drainholes and the drainholes are blocked, very blocked!!

I can get a bit of wire about 1cm into the hole and then its full of crud. Now i've tried using the wire to gouge bits out, to no avail, and i've attacked them with a pressure washer which only helped to get more water in the car.. I'm kinda stuck for ideas now, thought an airhose might be worth a shot but car is a complete no-runner so can't get to a garage to use the tyre hose there..

Any ideas??

PS.. Not been able to find where the holes come out at the bottom either (thinking it might be better to start that end and push stuff through out the top hole where it went in), they were easy to spot on my old sei but cannot see them on the cinq. Can anyone describe or take a pic of where they drain out for me.

I think the drain holes run down the inside skin of the shell, then there are some little holes along the lip where you insert the crappy jack under the car.

If the other car has a sunroof, slowly squirt water down those holes, on a dry, flat surface, and you will see the 4? puddles appear.

had the same problem, got the kettle to boil and VERY VERY carefully poured into the drain holes, followed by a tiny amount of washing up liquid, and more very hot water, lucky enough it worked.

majority of problems with wet carpet i have found is the sills have 3 holes with a sort of lip on them look under car where the jacking point is .many folk jack on the drain points which closes them up leading to the sills filling with water which then drains into the car under the carpet .so while under the car get a fairly thick flat head screwdriver and locate the 3 bits ,one at the end near each wheel and one in the middle of the sill....prod the screwdriver into the hole and open it up dont be shy waggle it around and you could well get a load of water coming out .this should sort the drainage out .

if you also go into the car pull the plastic trill off the sill where the carpet is you will see a couple of round rubber covers pull them off pop a finger in and you will see if its wet and hopefully not rusty.

the rubber drain hoses run down just behind the door behind the plastic below the rear window..pull that off and behind the seatbelt mechanism you will find a rubber hose and the other hose is at the bottom on where the hinges are for the door .peel back the carpet and you will see a black plastic cover with usually 2 white electrical connectors pull them out the way reach in and you will feel the rubber hose.

next you can either push the hoses into say a plastic bottle then pour some hot water down the drain holes in the sunroof water should gush out and come out fast if its not blocked ...if there blocked or not flowing easily theres a few methods .

one is to get some thin wire type used for the brake cable on a mountain bike and thread it up the rubber hose till it comes out the sunroof or do it the other way round.

another way is to get one of those garden pressure sprayers and pop the ende of the rubber drain hose onto that and spray till it clears

or if you have a harden hose with one of those shower type multi function heads.set it to jet spray and hold it hard onto the drain hose and squirt away.

now you can do this with the sunroof open closed or removed

i took my sunroof out which is easy once you get the hang of it,turn the wee silver screw on the big screw on the inside half a turn open the roof up sort of half way and give the roof a quick tap and it should pop up then theres a wee latch mechanism push on that then push up the roof and dont be shy and it will come out .to refit push roof into tangs push down on it till its onto the main mechanism lock it all down then turn the silver screw .if its properly locked check by giving a light tap inside up the way and the roof shouldnt move if it does fiddle with the silver screw repeat.

ideally if the cars wet inside then the felt undercarpet sound deadening will be rotten so carpet can be left in or out while you scrape all the rotten under felt out

personally take the carpet out you will need to take the seats out ( dead easy 4 bolts ) the plastic centre console ( bit around gear stick ) only 3 bolts 2 are hidden under the gearstick gaiter theres a few other plastic bits that hold the caret down but there easy to spot and remove.

if you take the carpet out and all the old smelly felt if you take the sunroof out as well you can then really unblocked and check the drainage by getting a hose to the drain holes and squirting down mind and out the drain hoses back where they were and while your there check for rust in the wheelarches at the rear behing the plastic panels and take the hose into the inner arches and spray through back to front if you have cleaned all that out properly water should now gush out the 3 drain holes in the sills on both sides of the car

also check that the seal between where the inner sill and floor pan roughly where your left foot would be if you were a passenger in a rhd car is if theres water still coming through there once the drain holes etc are all good them get some silicone seal into there .

once the cars all dried out you could waxoyl or similar inside the inner rear arches and sills.

if your sound deadening was rotten depending on budget you could use foam carpet underlay or even cardboard

once this is all done fingers crossed no more leaks and no more steamed up windows.
