Hi everyone. I have just finished fixing my Girlfriends Cinq sporting, and it seems to run fine although for some reason it is now ticking over quite fast, probably 1300 rpm when hot and a bit faster when cold. Is there any way of adjusting the idle speed downwards? I have checked the throttle cable is not too tight. Could I have an air leak or dirt preventing the throttle butterfly closing correctly.

Many thanks.
Simon.

Yeh, the ECU contols Idle speed so its certainly possible theres some sort of leak through the throttle body seal or something similar.

IIRC there is a little screw where the throttle cable meets the throttle body that is adjustable and makes sure the butterfly valve stops in the fully closed position... have you checked that?

Right I have checked all of the hoses, and the throttle stop but the car is still ticking over too fast. Around 1500rpm when hot.
Has anyone any other suggestions as to what I can do about it? If I disconnect the MAP sensor the car runs at the correct speed, although i know this is not good practice.

Can I do a reset of the ECU?

Simon.

when you changed the h/g did you disconnect the battery? if so the ecu will have reset anyway, and will take quite a few miles to re-learn its settings

you can pull the ecu plug if you want to reset it, leave it for a few mins then reconnect, run the car for a few miles let it get hot enough for the fan to come on, then see how the idle is

I had an idle problem when my lambda went, but you say you have replaced yours, make sure its connected securely, another thing - what caused your lambda to fail in the first place?

Thanks mate, I didn't disconnect the battery when doing the headgasket, however I think I have now found the problem. I had connected 2 of the hoses on the throttle body round the wrong way. It now idles at 1200 when cold and settles to 900 when warm.

Sorted.. :)

yeah, thats about right. Mine idles about 1000 when engine is warm, sometimes slightly higher if the outside temp is really cold, and when initially started [cold weather] it will idle at about 1200 too, settling down after a short time. Idle should be nice and smooth.

Good, I reckon you had the map sensor pipe on the wrong one.

Cheers
