Well - I'm exhaust shopping again tomorrow, anyone got sound clips (or vids) of their aftermarket systems?

The main ones i'm interested in are sportex and janspeed - trying to establish really which is louder, and then whether the loudest is tolerable (bearing in mind my old cinq used to have a ridiculously loud exhaust - I can pretty much tolerate anything :p ).

why not supersprint? they give the best sound imo, and look the best too.

thats my cinq with SS manifold, decat, stock centre pipe and a SS backbox. Cat will block some of the sounds, mine is now a bit louder because apart from the backbox its now a straight through system.

that does sound gorgeous - to be honest i had discounted supersprint, due to the fact that I heard Alanhelen's in the flesh a while ago, and it didn't sound all that loud... that and the fact that people seem to report milder volumes from the mpi's anyway..

...and then of course there's the cost - the sportex and janspeed are cheaper.

thanks for the clip tho, very helpful (y)

Anyone else?

I have to say I've been a bit disappointed with my Sportex cat back system in terms of volume on my Mpi. It sounds great from the outside but from inside the car you can hardly tell any difference from standard in terms of just volume.
I've now removed the centre silencer and replaced it with a Jetex straight section of pipe which has made it quite a bit better.
tbh I regret not saving up a bit more money and getting a full Stainless system, it's false economy imo getting a mild steel exhaust as they don't last long enough (certainly no where near as long as a standard factory exhaust in my experience). If you plan on keeping your car for a quite a while you'll probably end up having to replace a mild steel system after a few years as it'll rot from the inside out. So, 2 mild steel exhausts over say 4-5 years will cost more than 1 stainless system. Plus having a SS exhaust will be a good selling point when you eventually decide to sell the car.

Well folks - against my better judgement I've decided to go for a Sportex system.

I compared a video clip of my exhaust to that of Arc's, and to be fair I think my exhaust is actually fairly tuneful (despite being for a cinq originally)... and so i guess the decision was to go for the one everyone claims is loudest.
If I don't like it I can always sell it on in a few months and get the Janspeed.

I'll upload the vid of my current one sometime today, and do another for comparison after the sportex goes on (y)
Hopefully it might prove helpful for future exhaust sound queries.

Its only the loudest on cinqs, not on seis, you will be suprised and disappointed if you wanted it to be loud

hmm.. i may video mine as it sounds now - as i said, its a nicer noise with a straight thrugh centre section now.

it's not the loudest, but then i don't want a very loud exhaust - i want one that sounds good, and doesnt do my head in on the motorway!

Totally agree. Which is what I said in my post above.

To be honest, my exhaust only sounds loud when you rev it - when driving normally you can't really distinguish between mine and stock, but I'm told thats due to the flow rate being different to the spi engine that it was designed for.
Check the video when I put it up - you'll see what I mean.

Twould be interesting to see...

New zorst arrives wed/thurs next week :D

Here we go folks - the video (y)

(note: the part taken inside the car is with the windows down, so it does seem louder than it really is, also worth noting that in that particular part of the clip most of the noise is coming from the engine bay, rather than the exhaust).

You'll be best downloading it as for some reason the media player insert doesn't show the full screen width...
56k'ers (if there still are any in the world) beware... 7mb file

That's the remus - just wish it sounded like it would on an spi engine, then I wouldn't need to get rid :(

It's good that you're ready to buy - hopefully if I can get the sportex on this week, then I'le be passing your way next weekend to do the xmas present drop off at my parents house (y)

The MPI cat downpipe/manifold is a real noise deadener. To get a nice sound out on a MPI you want to use an SPI based exhaust system. Until you do that you'll always end up with a dead sound that's not that loud or pleasurable to hear.
